Default Problems since changing the battery

Took the car to get the battery tested today and they said it was bad and changed it.
When I got back in the car I noticed the dash light was on indicating that the coolant needed topping up, checked it and it was ok and the garage said that it will probably go out after a few miles and I drove off. Then I went to turn the radio on and that was dead so I went back to the garage where they then checked the fuses and a 15 amp had blown which they changed but I still had the problems. They were then stumped and said to bring it back on Monday. Anybody any ideas? Thanks in advance for any advice. Colin.

I hope they didn't put a standard battery in there. Our positive/negative terminals are reversed.

Positive (red) closest to windshield
Ground (black) closest to coolant tank

I've checked the connections and the battery is correct with the positive nearest the screen.

They didn't "Test" the battery with it in the car did they?

They are hardly reversed, they are offset to one side. having two different diameters for the cable connections should make the hookup obvious except to an imbecile, but who knows.
More damage would have been done with an incorrect connection I'm sure.

I didn't see if they tested it while still in the car as they couldn't look at it straight away so I left it with them and when I returned it had been replaced.
Everything else seems to work except the cigarette lighter but I had never used that so it may never have worked.
I looked through the manual and cannot find which fuse controls the low rad dash light so I guess the best thing to do today is pull all the fuses and check.

I knew but others who come later may not and take it literally and cause problems for themselves if you see what I mean.

4 things:

1. Make sure the sensor is connected to the bottom of the coolant reservoir tank.
2. Check to see if the radiator fan is plugged in.
3. Check the fan control module, the plug can become lose.
4. Make sure your coolant temp sensor is plugged in, it's located next to the thermostat.

All these can set off your coolant light.

Coolant light on. Radio not working. I don't see the connection. Check all the other functions. Maybe a pattern will rise.

I changed my battery this spring and do not remember anything that might be easy to screw up in replacing it.

Have checked all the connections as suggested and all ok as are all the fuses, thanks for the tips.
Will have to wait until my return on Monday to the garage to see what they come up with.
Have also noticed that the battery is loosely fitted and I can rock it around and despite the negative connection to the battery being at its tightest I can still pull it off by hand meaning the terminal on the new battery must be smaller than the one its replaced.

That could very well be the issue. These cars need a secure and fully charged battery or else they flip out, lol.

What battery did you have installed? There's a thread on here with good recommendations for batteries that fit our cars.

A word of advice here, DO NOT EVER GO BACK TO THAT PLACE.

Cut your losses and go somewhere caring and competent.

How damn dumb can they be?

You need to take of the terminal, unscrew the bolt five or six turns and open up the terminal, by using a screwdriver in the slot. The terminal will then sit lower on the taper of the battery terminal and will clamp up as it should.

What he needs to do is return the battery since they sold him the wrong one.

I don't think he was talking about the negative post there.

Its sitting as far down the battery terminal as its possible, the negative terminal is smaller than the terminal for the positive.
I'm really pissed of by it all as I'm sure they will try and get out of taking responsibility and its the unknown of what else could have been damaged that may materialise over time. Maybe the radio has its own fuse once its out and that may resolve that. I will get them to change the battery first and then take things from there. They are a chain of stores here in Spain called Norauto so I'm hoping that they won't want any negative publicity. They do tyres, exhausts, car audio etc.
