cutting eibach spring is too dangerous, it will change the resistance of the material and you will be in real danger.

There is always one moron in a group like this.

No it won't!

Show me the data that says that localized heat, the cutting area, changes the characteristic of the metal.

Can you?

metal characteristic...it would not see change imo.

ride is a completely different story...as far a cutting...it all depends if they are progressive rate springs or not. if its a dead coil...cutting is fine.

would i do it to my car...no...but you can.

The eibach springs for our car is not progressive for all 4. only 2 of them are progressive.

As far as cutting spring, I would not recommend doing that, but if you really want to do it, it is okay as long as it is not the OEM spring you are cutting.

pnsji,

For our XF (SLK) Eibach's, which pair of springs are progressive: the front or the rear?

Thanks.

I believe the rear springs are the progressive one. It has been a while since I install the spring to my car.

Careful guys. front wheel clearance is at a minimum. If you lower too much with the same size tires, you're going to grind like hell on the fronts. H&R springs will take you down the furthest of any aftermarket product, 1.5". The spring pads are another option and can be purchased through MB. Or you can shave the pads yourself when you're replacing the springs.

Now you're looking at probably -1.25" camber offset which can't easily be adjusted with the OEM set-up and I haven't found an aftermarket camber kit for the car yet. So, now you've just got yourself a car thats going to look like a duck from the front and rear and will burn through the inboard edge of your front tires in 10k miles +/-. And you'll probably create a huge amount of oversteer which will send your *** spinning on the first wet corner you hit a little too fast... But what the hell do I know ?

HDDP,

I have 19x8.5" with eibach pro kit and 235/35/19 and no rubbing so far. The clearance between my tires and steering knuckle bolt is about 3-5mm. No rubbing on the fender whatsoever.

Shaving the spring pads are not recommended. The rubber pad is a very hard rubber. Unless you could shave it evenly, then do it.

The front, you could buy eccentric bolts from the benz dealer to correct the camber.
For the rear, my friend make camber arms:

Good info, I had major problems with front wheel well rub after I installed the Eibach / Koni combo. it was only on hard, off-cambered corners at the track though. And when backing-up, turning. I wonder if the QC on the Eibach spring size is not perfect. My camber has been adjusted to -.5" and I still run the OEM wheels and Conti's on the the street. Could be a car-by-car issue, because SASKINS hasn't changed his suspension yet but is getting rub when he is turning in reverse !

I like those tie arms... where'd you find them ?

Those custom camber kits runs about $275 for the pair. They are adjustable arm as supposed to the fixed OEM arm.

edit:
Actually I just saw your gallery and it rubs on the plastic cover. Maybe try to push the wheel out 10mm by spacers?

mine also rubs only in reverse when the wheels are turned hard as well (front area/both sides)...it doesn't bother me. it's not doing any damage...no biggie imo. i am running stock rims and tires with eibach & konis. i am using spacers...it rubs with or without spacers.

Actually it rubs on the inside wheel-well at about the 11 o'clock position on the inboard side of the wheel. Wheel spacers are out of the question since I run the car on the track alot. I had some issues with wheel spacers a few years ago on one of my other sportscars and SCCA DSQ'd my season points.

Back to the tie arms... do you have a vendor for them or were they custom made ?

So it only rubs on the passanger side? I know that Mercedes has problem with passanger side only.

The arms are custom made. If you need one, please send me email at sirwan at gmail dot com.
