Chrysler Fiat is not the company that built the car in the first place so we are in limbo.
Unfixable SKREEMs to me suffer from a component failure, replace the failed component and they would be fixable. Finding the faulty part being the hard part.
I agree with your feedback. Hopefully, we will be successful in our efforts to identify a vendor or vendors that will service these modules. All of us will rest comfortably when this occurs.

So I have a question for those more knowledgeable. DId the 1999-2004 SLK320s have a SKREEM module? Or was this a means for M-B to have some leverage over the Chrysler version? Just curious.

No.
I am saying IF they can't repair the SKREEM we supply, they offer a replacement OEM one and keys.(which are in limited supply)
IF we accept this offer, they programme it to work with our supplied ECU

If you live where there are no emissions tests, remember that you can get the RFID chip from another car's keys, it's SKREEM and ECM - and you are good to go.
Not always a CHEAP way out, but it's a way out.

I still would think that the companies that make "racing ECMs" could produce an ECM that would run an M112 engine and be plug-and-play. Perhaps with a million SLKs on the road, such a thing will happen.
or, maybe not. In any event, this is going to be an issue with all aging cars of the modern age. On the other hand, the outlawing of gasoline-engine cars is not that far off, anyway.

And this is the bane of everyone that tried to work on their vehicles. For quite a while car manufacturers have been up-teching vehicles so you HAVE to source their 'service' departments. One example is in the farming community, John Deer has proprietary modules in their machinery that when you buy them, are required (BY CONTRACTUAL AGREEMENT as part of the sale) to be taken to their service techs. Automakers tried (and failed, but continues to try) to enact legislation making customers (buyers) come to their service depts. through modules that are PROPRIETARY. Consumers have fought this (farmers were not numerous enough for that market). So, all my tools used for my 60's, 70's, 80's engines (dwell/tach, and the like) are obsolete. Oh, remember the days when ANY red wire in a harness was usually a positive 12 volts? I rest my case... People (some/many) still think reaching into a harness, that a red wire is 12 volts (switched or not). We should know the color of the wire past the creation of the 'service manual', only denotes what it should have been (wire shortages in the plant is a slave to rollout of the vehicles/productivity). Gone are the days when MOST people can do more than change a flat (sans the AAA like services?). With most of todays vehicles, all you (as a driver) are is a passenger without responsibility to be responsible while DRIVING that vehicle. Think about it.....

So we should have cars that only have red and green wires? That does not make sense to me.
