I would not put any weight in there not on this list:

Personally, I run 5W40 here in North Georgia as 0W40 is just too damn thin.

I was running 5W50 in the summer, but it's just too thick for a cold start below about 45F. Try Mobile 1 5W50 if you are concerned about the heat of summer, but again, if you start the engine at 45F or below, you WILL hear the lifters banging for up to 60 seconds, it's just too thick. Other than that, find a 5W40 on the above list and go with that.

I think you are mixed up a bit, the lower number is for the colder temperatures.
That is what I understand anyway.

I can only report what I've observed, Dave. Try it and see. I was a BIG believer in 5W50 for a while, you saw how I preached about it - but when I stopped putting enough miles on for two oil changes a year, I quickly realized that 5W50 below about 45F was just to thick upon startup. 5W40 (and 0W40 for that matter) do not yield a "tapping engine" at even 30F.

And yes, I know about the "it performs like the first number at cold temps and the second number at high temps" claim - but again, I can only report what I have directly observed.

Then you'd have 8 quarts of 5w/43.75

Go with the 5W40, the engine stays about the same temperature when hot.

The cocktail you propose would look good with a little umbrella on the top of the dipstick.
