Trying to buy a crossfire
It's 3 1/2 hours away. 66k miles and the guy says the key won't turn anymore. Really want it but scared to buy something I gotta trailer home. I've read all about the sticky key, and confident I can fix it. But is there anything else that I should be looking for? Just don't wanna get home, fix the key and it still doesn't start 😥
If you can't turn the key how are you going to fix it? It's probably pretty safe to say the car is fine at 66k. Just worry about the normal RCM, crank sensor etc and you should be ok.
Without being able to start the car it's hard to determine what else could be wrong with it. Certainly you can do visual checks for leaks, tire wear or dry rot, and brake condition. Ask the seller if they have any maintenance documents on the car. How long have they had it. Personally, I would think there would not be an underlying other "no start" condition other than the stuck key. You need to factor in the unknown in pricing the car.
Other common failure items that could stop you from driving it home include a bad relay control module, and crankshaft position sensor. However, it would be very unlikely they would also be bad, I carry a spares kit that includes those two items.

TheStig, I don't know where you live in Missouri but check out the thread in Cars For Sale titled 2005 Base Roadster Near Saint Louis. I started this thread when I saw this car for sale in O'Fallon, MO. Check out the posts on the thread. The car looked very nice. Hope this information helps.
