bcm for crossfire
Either a Starscan or DRBIII scanner, depending on the year Crossfire, can read and test a BCM while it is in the car.

For 2004 to 2006 it's the DRBIII.
Note: Deleted aftermarket DRBIII emulator link after it was identified it did not cover Crossfires.

I hope you don't think I'm stalking but you are asking a lot of good questions to which I'm interested in learning the answers.
I don't know the history here, but I assume you believe there is something wrong with the BCM you have. Rather than pay a dealer a hundred dollars or more to user their scanner, if they still have one as both types are obsolete and not supported, you can buy a used BCM cheap to swap out to diagnose your problem. If you still have the problem it's not your BCM. You then have a spare if ever needed or resell it.
Here is a current listing for one @ $89.

thank you very much for the detailed explanation. my BCM works fine. it is that i like to have as many parts available in case 1 goes south. i already have 1 spare that i got cheap but would like to learn to test it if is ok.
am getting other parts that are easy to install and dont require some expensive scanners and knowledge (although am learning about some scanners that dont cost an arm and a leg), such as camshaft and crankshaft sensors, and a ground cable, for instance, that prevent possible failures. but there is so much to learn, and am having fun doing so. i was fascinated with the car, but was not until recently that i have been able to get 1, and when i learned about this group, am having the time of my life. a fantastic car, and so much to learn! and you guys are welcome with any comment and ideas.
at the end of the day, what am trying to learn is for the purpose of reducing the chance of finding myself stopped midway to nowhere or not being able to drive it anymore, that is all.
but seems that, with the advent of electronics, we are deeper every day into something that is unavoidable-and that is increasingly further out of reach.

I doubt a BCM would ever leave you stranded. I don't recall it being a problem reported on the forum by others to be concerned about. Seeing the future 10 years ago, following my first Crossfire purchase, I bought different types of spares, and I know others have as well. I also bought the Chrysler scanners, technical manuals, and training material.
It was necessary for a number of reasons for the auto industry to go to high tech electronics. I grew up working on my own cars and in those days we didn't need no engine computers.
Nowadays every aspect of a car has a electronic control unit and they are all connected by a CAN bus data network. Went to a friends open house a couple of months ago they had a refrigerator with a computer screen built into the door with wifi on it. They could see inside the fridge, surf the net, take pictures for social media. Who really needs that, but I'm off topic.
I wish I bought more Crossfire headlights. I could have retired by now reselling them. I even bought a spare hood from a local seller because at one point they were no longer available, but that is not an issue now with new and many used ones for sale. I looked at other hobby cars 6 months before choosing the Crossfire. Actually I had a couple of other convertibles before my first Crossfire, but that's not my point. Anyway, I've checked out those other car owner forums and have found they have their own problems. One example is the Saturn Sky which to me is a sharp looking car. Some Sky owners complain about parts availability, problematic cup holders, no headroom, interior layout and plastic, fenders that crumple when jacked up incorrectly, and other things I can't remember right now. I could still buy one of those in the future.
