Default Air conditioning "whistling"

Hi,
Anyone had this strange problem? Most times when you start the engine, turn off the air conditioning, and sometimes when you accelerate on the straight, for a few seconds only a high pitch whine/whistle is emitted. My mechanic thinks it's coming from behind the dash, but doesn't want to start dismantling it until the problem really becomes intolerable. Any suggestions?
Sandy

Mine did that when I first bought it. I just keep it between 0-1 setting and it took care of it. I also changed the cabin filter once I got it home, maybe that was the cause of it, but I have yet to hear it again and I’ve had the car for 4 years now.

Sussudio,

Thank you for the suggestion - I'll get my mechanic to check/change the filter next time I take her in.

There is a white valve behind the glove box that is a control on the diverter for incoming air to the heat or AC. This has caused whistling noises before.
Use search for POSTS on “white valve”. .
