So I decided today to transfer my old key fob to a new case. I read the thread about taking apart key fob without breaking and it was fairly easy to take it apart. Everything seemed to go pretty well until I tried the fob after putting it back together and…NOTHING! The car starts just fine but it does not remote lock or unlock. Batteries are in correctly and I tried to sync the remote (key in ignition, pressing locking or unlocking twice then starting car within 30 secs).
Any tips? I find it super hard to believe I somehow broke the chip board as I was real careful.

 

Is this your alter ego or are you still nickwe21? Why do you need 2 accounts?

 

This is Nickwe21 but I don't know my password and I don't have access to my email address from years ago when I signed up to reset my user info. So to be able to use the forum at work or when I'm not home I made a new account to be able to post from my phone.
So TNT is setup on my phone and Nickwe21 on my tablet.
If this is a major inconvenience or issue we can just delete one or the other. I didn't think this would be an issue since I clearly am not trying to mislead and regularly answer from one account or the other account to my own threads. Does anyone have any tips on this?

Car starts just fine and locks/unlocks but since I swapped the chip / transponder the central locking mechanism isn't working anymore.
I paid extra attention to make sure while prying the key apart to be very careful with the chip board and the two contacts that stick out where the batteries go.
Is there a chance those got bent somehow? I'm not quite sure what they are supposed to look like or how far they are supposed to stick out.
Any tips on what I should be looking for or how I can salvage this key?

So here is the funny thing. I have a SRT6 and a 2004 limited. SRT had two sets of keys I recently switched to new cases due to wear and then the Limited key, that doesn’t work anymore.
None of those three keys lights up when I hold down any buttons.
‘I also don’t see How there could be a led light up under that red plastic cover, as there aren’t any LEDs underneath that cover from when I took it apart. Or am I missing something?
The two SRT keys I swapped into the new black key fob case both work just fine but also No led when I press the lock/unlock buttons.

Any help is much appreciated.

 

The LED is not large and it sits at the forward narrow end of the board in the chip area.
The light flashes dimly a couple of times then flashes brightly once. You would probably have to be in the dark to see the dim flashes. All my fobs have flashed when you hold a button down for a second or two, do not press the panic button though.😉
You can see it in one of the photos in the sticky post that shows you how to change the cases, it shows up as a white square I think.

 

Gonna try that tonight. I'll just try all three to see the difference because two work (the SRT6 ones) the limited doesn't. Will report back

 

So just went into the bathroom and turned lights off..it's even more bizarre.

SRT Key 1: Key functions fine but no led lights upSRT spare key: Functions AND led lights up.
limited spare: does not function to lock/unlock..start the car just fine but no led.

How is it possible that both SRT keys work but one doesn't show the LED?

The red light is a battery check, if it lights up the battery is fine, no light means the battery is dying or dead. Have you switched batteries?
You might have said you have and I never read back far enough.
Your explanation above is a bit hard to understand but I think I got it.

 

Just to be safe I'm going to go tonight and purchase new batteries for the two key fobs. Then I will respond back.

The two SRT6 key fobs work perfectly fine.

The Limited doesn't work at all.

All three key fobs I opened up the same way and transferred them to a new case because they were pretty beat up.I really hope I didn't break the electronics board on the Limited somehow. But just visually inspecting it, it looks great.

 

JFYI, I am following this thread cause after replacing my case, it no longer works either. I can see red flashes but not working. car starts fine but can't use lock/Unlock feature? Hopefully a solution to this problem.

 

Hopefully you transferred the tiny RFID chip from the front of the FOB. This is what starts the car.

 

Why not use the batteries from the fob that works, and put them in the right way.

 

Chip was transferred, new batteries, no flash and I just tried to "sync" the key to the vehicle for the 10th time per the manual and nothing..

I saw a thread in the "Crossfire Repair collection" about repairing key fobs and I might just try that as a last ditch effort. Basically checking all contact points for broken joints and touching them up with a soldering iron.

I'm also wondering if those two wire contacts that stick out from the board and make contact with the batteries got bent when I opened the key shell. But then again, I'd imagine as long as they make contact with the batteries it should be fine and they do.

 

In your case since you see the red flash, I think you just need to sync your key fob with the vehicle. Apparently when the batteries are out for too long the car doesn't recognize the key.

So per the instructions:

Put key in ignition but don't turn on.
Press Lock or Unlock on your key fob twice in a row THEN within 30 seconds turn your key to the on/run position.

That should re-sync the fob to your vehicle.

I have seen two different sets of instructions for this procedure...some say you need to have the key in the ignition for this to work other said you just point the key at your car and perform the "double press" then insert the key..might wanna try both.

 

TNT, in the first line of his last post he says the fob does not flash.

 

Weird thing is one of my SRT Key doesn't flash either but works totally fine.
The other SRT key flashes.
