2004 Crossfire Coupe - Sticky Key fix needed
I am so beside myself! I had my car in the shop since yesterday morning! And I just got word that they cannot fix it and would not fix it! They told me that it's either the ignition or the steering wheel and that both
are made up of plastic! Suggested that I go to a Dodge Dealership to have it fixed! Well you know how that could be very expensive! He kepto telling me that they don't have parts for these cars and they don't
make them anymore. But I love this car! And it is a clean little car!
I live in Dallas, Texas. Is there anybody on this forum live in Dallas, Texas??? That have a reputable mechanic that know something about Crossfires????
It is the only car I have. And I am sol!!!
Thanks!

First, what EXACTLY is going wrong with the car? If it's mechanical take it to an independent European repair shop that works on Mercedese. All of the mechanicals are 2004 Mercedes SLK 320.
I went to do my chores Saturday and I put my key in the ignition and the key would not turn.
I jiggled the key and the steering wheel and I still could not turn the ignition.

Use search and look for ‘Sticky Ignition key fix’. The pdf explains how to fix it, in fact most people do it themselves and it costs nothing. There is nothing to buy, although dealers will try to talk you into buying a $300 item plus labour. You just need to take out two pieces and you will have exactly what they will try and sell you.
You must locate an independent shop that service European cars
Ask if they understand working on a Crossfire before you leave it anywhere for service
Well I made copies of the Sticky key ignition switch. And yes I have checked with several mechanics and they will not touch it!!! It has to go to a Chrysler dealership.
That is what every mechanic is telling me! I am screwed!!!

The sticky key fix has been done by many owners
I'm certain a Chrysler shop wont be of any help to you either because very few have a mechanic actually onsite that know our cars
There were very few mechanics who new these cars working in a Chrysler shop back in 2004 to 2008
I have shared this thread with 4 tech groups on Facebook to try to find ya the help ya need

He is a good friend to many of us for many years and goes by the name Mark Christy on Facebook
He will likely post here in this thread when he becomes available
Try turning the key using a snapping motion. Like you are snapping your middle finger and thumb to music. I got by with this trick for a long time untill I made the repair.
Anyone in the 46530 Granger In. Area that would be willing to help me with this sticky key fix ? I thought I had the problem fixed 4 years ago . They put in new ignition housing, but the never took out the pin like I asked them too ! Now it’s starting to stick again ! Key still turns now but not sure how long again !

If you don’t want to preform the sticky key fix :
1, download the sticky key fix & print it out
2. take it to a local mechanic who has experience with ignition deconstruction
its not that hard. Maybe an hours labor.

Do not get talked into buying a new ignition module, as it will be identical to what you could have got just by following the pdf instructions.
