Default spoiler override switch on console

The red light at the center of my console mounted spoiler override switch stays on all the time, unless I disconnect the battery of course. The spoiler itself seems to operate normally. The spoiler lifts at proper speed and drops at proper speed. It will raise and lower with the override switch. So, why is the red light illuminated and what should I do about it?
I bought the car back in the spring of this year. In hindsight, I think this light has been illuminated ever since I owned the car. Everything was working so it has never occurred to me that it shouldn't be that way.
I put a new battery in the car two months ago. That new AC Delco battery died after two months which makes me wonder if this light contributed to that premature failure.

If you suspect too much battery drain, measure it and let's go from there. I have attached the procedure below. And yes, this could be related. Now, I have, in the last ten years, had new batteries die twice in the first 2-6 months - it does happen.

As to the light, it is not normal for it to be on all the time. This is the BCM's way of flagging what it thinks is a problem. Given your wing works fine, I am at a loss as to what it thinks is wrong. I'd do a battery drain test and see what the current is and let's go from there.

I've checked the battery load twice now. Each time, it went exactly as you described within your wonderful guide. Both times, once things have settled into hibernation mode, the meter jumps between 0.01 and 0.02amps. So, it's well below the 0.055 threshold you defined. So the red warning light is not drawing heavily from the battery. Do I just stop looking at the red light and learn to live with it?

I think I would. I"m running .016-.020 amp myself. The battery is fine even with sitting 3-4 weeks at a time. (I try to start the car every three weeks, drive it, and cycle the top but sometimes I get distracted and let it go too long.)

An LED that size means about .5 to 1mA. If the associated circuit is not a big deal, (and it apparently isnt) that led is not issue. I mean, my company car had a blinking LED for the security system that blinked anytime the car was locked!

I am NOT saying your light is not unusual, it is unusual. The only thing I can think of is to replace the BCM, since all the logic for the wing is in the BCM.

There is one thing you can try. Do you have it "locked" in the "up" position? If not, press the button until the wing goes up and locks (you should hear a beep).

Drive around with it locked in the 'up' position and see if that changes the light's mode. If that clears it, lower it and put it in auto mode and see if the light comes back.
These tests may tells us something about what the BCM thinks is wrong.

Pizzaguy,
I've been meaning to report back in on this matter. I conducted the suggested experiment you proposed and just keep forgetting to report back.
Interestingly, when you use the switch on the console to raise and lock the spoiler, it does NOT beep when it reaches the top, fully extended position. When you lower it back into the fully seated position using the switch then it DOES beep. And driving around with it locked up did nothing to change the problem of the light remaining illuminated at all times.
So far, so good with the new battery.

Im starting to get the idea that the upper limit switch is bad in the spoiler assembly.

My spoiler works when I hit 61 mph. However, my spoiler switch does not work and it flashes constantly when ignition switch is on.
