Last year I thought it might be a good idea to make sure the spare RCM and BCM worked so I installed them.
They worked fine so I left them in, the originals are in the trunk where the spare were.
Both were used items, the RCM cost me $45 about fifteen years ago, I had soldered the three usual points and inspected it for burnt contacts.
Where is the best place to pick up a spare RCM and BCM for a 05 limited?
I got both of mine on eBay. I would suggest at least a visual inspection for the RCM, better yet a running test and a running test for the BCM. They both just plug in.
You don’t want to have non running spares when you need them.
Yes, they are model specific. No programming required, so apart from the model requirement they are plug and play.
So, 6 specific BCM's for the NA market. Base/SE Coupe, Base/SE Roadster, Limited Coupe, Limited Roadster & SRT6, SRT6 Roadster. I'd expect other variants for UK, Aus, Europe etc.?
Stupid question whats "RCM" stand for what cntrl module?
I take it "BCM" is body cntrl module?
Relay Control Module Carry a spare and get your original refurbished. Not only will the three bad solder joints be redone, other weak solder joints will be done.
The four main relays will be replaced AND the Me So Horny mod (horn works without the key) will be done!
Currently $52 with return shipping in the USA. Email tighed1@hotmail.com for the details.

Maybe one more, the 2004 was slightly different from the others, it was not a Limited. Get the model and possibly the year matching your car.
Dave, I thought about the 2004 also. I think the only difference you might consider is the self dimming rear view mirror and I don't think it would involve the BCM, but I could be wrong.
Hi There! Sorry I'm a newbie owner I have an 2005 Limited Coupe.. When I looked on Ebay for a spare BCM They don't list which model and year they came from...So how am I supposed to know which one to purchase? Is there a part # to look for?
Just so I understand a bcm that came off of a 2005 base coupe won't work then right?
BCM and RCM are in the box next to the battery. Every RCM in all Crossfires, SLK320s and SLK230s are the same, cept the SLK230 RCM is about $45 cheaper but has all 15 amp fuses, one of our fuses has to be 20 amp - so I ordered an SLK230 RCM and transplanted the fuse.
BCMs dont go bad, I'd not concern myself with the BCM unless it is proven the BCM is bad. And Iv'e been here since 2009 and can think of maybe ONE BCM that failed.
In the SLK230, the yellow fuse is blue, our cars need a 20 amp (Yellow) fuse, there is no other difference in the RCMs between the '320 and '230.
Hi All,
I just bought a brand new SLK 230 RCM, part no: 170 545 02 05, for my uk 06 crossfire roadster. Changed the blue fuse (closest to orange one from 15amp to 20amp) and car still not starting. Even with fuses swapped to original, still no start. Is this the wrong part?
I believe that is the wrong part. The correct Mercedes number is 170 545 03 05.
However, what many have used here in the USA is Standard Brands relay Ry 1562; That is the correct replacement for a Crossfire and the Mercedes SLK 320.
When looking for the Standard Brands relay for a 2003 SLK 230 the number referenced is Ry 1739. Which indicates to me a different relay requirement.
After I dug deeper at the Standard Brands website it lists the Ry 1739 for both the SLK 320 and the SLK230, So apparently the two are indeed interchangeable.
It would be best to start a new thread and tell us exactly what is happening with your car. Does it turn over when you try to start the car or nothing at all ? What happens after you relax the key one notch counter clockwise from the full start position and let it there for one minute; Will the fan start up to high speed ? etc the more info we have the better we could help.
