I bought my 2006 XFire from a friend who had it for (14) years with no serious issues until recently. The "manual" shifter would sometimes stick in 6th gear and other times it would miss second and go into 4th. My current two independent Euro shops would not do any trans work on this vehicle leaving me to find someone on my own. So, long story short, I decided to replace the trans and the clutch. I found a low mile one from a salvage yard with a one year warranty and got a referral for an independent Porsche, MB and BMW specialist. Install took one day and so far, so good. Below are the costs + labor for anyone who has similar issues with their Crossfire or is considering buying a "manual" XFire. At the time of this posting vehicle had 82K miles.

Manual trans w/one year warranty: $550
LUK Clutch Kit: $527
Labor: $890
Total: $1967 (not including tax)

 

So is this the car you bought three years ago? How can you buy a car three years ago AND seventeen years ago?
