NO REST FOR THE WICKED! Car has been running great for the past few days so I thought I'd take my first little trip somewhere. 12 miles away to a gun shop. Left the gun shop and all was well. About 1/4 mile down the road, and giving it a little "giddy-up-go", my CEL came on and I noticed it was running rough. Pulled into 7-11 gas station, left engine running and was idling rough, in park, at about 750 rpm. Prayed that it would not go into limp mode and get me home. It did! Noticed, when reaching 62 mph or above, the spoiler did not come up. Pulled the codes and here's what I got. P300 Random multiple cylinder misfire P304 #4 Cylinder misfire P305 #5 Cylinder misfire P0410 Secondary air injection problem Haven't had time yet to get into diagnosing my problem because "my car and I" are not on speaking terms at the moment. AND it's 85 degrees outside. LoL I'll just drink my iced tea and think how wonderful life is! Plugs, wires, maf, hmmmm I wonder! NOTE: This was covered in another post, "'05 Xfire starting curiosity," that got carried away with too much extrenios confusion so I decided to start a new post isolating this problem.
I haven't been able to work on this problem as the wife and I have been sick the last three weeks. RCM, coils, plugs and wires have already been discussed previously. Those items will be checked today when it gets a little warmer. Going to switch coils and see if problem goes to different cylinders. Kinda strange that all of a sudden I get two cylinder misfires at exactly the same time. Especially when car was running very nicely all morning! Runs good until I shower down a little on acceleration!
Car has not been started in about three weeks, deleted codes, and it started up just fine! Took a ride to get it up to operating temp and car ran just fine even after showering down on accelerator. No CEL and no codes! It's hard to troubleshoot when there is no problem to investigate. Guess I'll have to drive it for awhile and see if problem returns.
My Graphite would act up on hard acceleration, but then go back to normal at idle or mild throttle. The car had 90,000 or so miles. 12 plugs and 12 plug wires fixed it.
In your case, i do not think it's a clear. But it has to be ignition or fuel delivery. Remember, not all "misfires" are ignition. I kinda suspect yours is fuel delivery, based on how the symptom "lasts after going back to normal throttle".
But I sure do not know for sure.

When it acted up, and going back to idle, it still stayed the same rough engine malfunction and I was afraid I'd be left stranded. Has 110K miles and don't know if it has ever had a fuel filter change. Maybe I could do that but want it to fail first!

Changing the wires, plugs and coils should help no matter what.
It may be a fuel filter starting to clog. I had that on an old Ramcharger. It would drive fine for about 20 minutes, then I would have to pull over and let everything settle. then it would run fine again.
The difference being the truck had a sock style filter and our cars have a canister filter.
You could try to run some Sea Foam through the gas or have the injectors cleaned.
Yup, good point! I'll bet mine is the same pump and filter from the factory. Got some decision making tor my two cars, My daily driver is 2006 XF and my "spare" is this 2005 XF. My 2006 needs paint job and was quoted $5K for same color paint job. My 2005 will "eventually" need new exhaust with cat on left bank. I had cut out the old cat and put a used one on. Both run really well. Probably gonna sell one or the other to pay for what it the one I keep needs.

Well I'm still around.and have not been able to get back to work on the cross firing on my '05. Have been having some trouble with my back and hip. But no need for a pity party as I'm on the mend. Been four months since I drove it, so today I aired up the tires and drove a few miles. The battery was still up after all that time. Ran great "but" did not do any fast acceleration to see if It still had the cross firing problem.
