Default starter problems

We have a 2004 crossfire base coup. the starter when engaged makes a terrible clicking noise, slower and much louder than the "low battery" clicking noise. It won't engage with the engine to start the car, just makes the clicking racket. Am I due for a new starter?? the care has 70k, and is otherwise in good shape.

How old is the battery and have you had it load tested?

From what you have described, it sounds like the battery isn't providing enough power to the starter.
You might want to check the date code on your battery. If it's around 3 years old or more, you probably need a new battery.
