Default Tach incorrect?

I have searched both the forums and google and can't find a surefire answer. I know that my 04 Coupe is now 21 years old so it will have its share of electrical problems but are the that's known for being inaccurate? I have just started driving my crossfire daily while my truck is in the shop and have noticed that the vehicle hits the fuel cut/rev limiter at 5k indicated on the tach. I do have an ABS light and TCS light on, do they have anything to do with it?

The tachometers are accurate even after all these years. Check your's in the morning when you first start the car and stay in park, it will idle about 1300 RPM and then after 15 ~ 20 seconds or so (depends on ambient temperature) the RPM will drop to about 800.
I do not know what the original rev limiter is set at, but 5,000 RPM is certainly not right, so the car my be cutting your RPM because of the faulty codes. Go to an auto parts store and scan the car. Get the exact DTC numbers and correct those faults before trying to mess with the tach.

The rev limiter varies based on what gear you are in. Put the car in neutral and floor it, the engine will sit at 4300 rpm (or was it 4100?)
Now, try flooring it in each gear and see where it limits, you will see what I mean.

I believe tuners (that is, the people who do performance tunes) can fill you in better than I can about what the limits are. The MSS, Rudy Compart and Rob at Needswings would be good people to ask.

Thanks pizzguy,

I always think in terms of an automatic transmission as that is what I own and most Crossfires are automatics. My cars have had the limiter changed form original by tuners. The SRT6 shifts at 6300 at WOT, but much lower RPM when just cruising.
