Car Diagnostic Tool for Crossfire
I am thinking of buying a diagnostic tool for my 2004 Crossfire. Can you recommend one that works well? My Chrysler is sold in the US, but I live in Sweden. The one I am considering is iCarsoft CR Pro. But there is also a version for American cars called, iCarsoft US V2.0 and iCarsoft USV3.0. But since the Crossfire is built by Mercedes in Germany, I wonder if it is classified as American car with the Germany built electric systems?
iCarsoft are expensive tools, maybe there are cheaper ones that are just as good? I'm looking for a simple tool with a cord without connection to a computer or phone.
In Sweden, the first generation Mercedes SLK320 is significantly more common than the Chrysler Crossfire. When I asked the salesperson if the diagnostic tool for Mercedes also fits the Crossfire, no one could answer. So it is unclear how much of the electric system is Mercedes and how much is adapted to Chrysler.

I use the CRP123 and the Millennium 90 Pro, both by Launch. It's a Chinese company but they work well scanning ECU, TCU, ESP, and airbag codes. You can do a handful of resets with them too. IT WILL NOT RESET AIRBAG CODES ON 2007-2008 models.

For Mercedes-Benz/Sprinter/Smart MBV2.0 is the one I have. It covers the years for the SLK320 or SLK32Amg. https://icarsoft.com/Product/s-300-iCarsoft_MB_V2.html you can see it here.
.
For your 2004 Crossfire, a diagnostic tool designed for American cars like the iCarsoft US versions should generally work, but because the electronics are Mercedes-based, some functions may be limited. If you want a simple corded tool, focus on OBD-II compatibility and Mercedes-specific protocols. Cheaper generic OBD-II readers can cover basic codes reliably.

The iCarsoft is on sale and will do what you are looking for: https://www.icarsoft-us.com/products/mb-ii

Edsel, If you haven't already, the online Mercedes Forum https://mbworld.org/forums/ is a good resource for all types of MB vehicles. This site has a large international following. As you indicate our xfires were made by MB and are very similar to SLK320 class R 121. This site has a section for these models. I also recently bought a diagnostic code reader on on Amazon for 159usd made by Launch (Creader Elite V2.0) . This version is specifically for MB and Maybach model cars and Sprinter trucks. I beleive the unit I have only covers more recent or newer MB models. I plan on using this code reader for my MB E350 sedan. Try searching the different Launch units to see if there are models that support older MB vehicles. I doubt there will be a version available specifically for the xfire. The MB SLK R121 version should be capable of diagnosing the ECM for a 3.2L engine or automatic transmission,

The XF N/A 3.2L I believe is the MB R171, or am I incorrect?
.
I am not certain about the differences beween the R121 and R171. I buy my xfire parts from FCP (Foriegn Car Parts.com) in the US. They donot have any listings for our xfires but they will respond to models like SLK320 R121 etc. I have purchased engine & auto transmission parts from them for my 2005 xfire roadster limited which has the 3.2L engine.

1. Chrysler Crossfire - Wikipedia
2. Mercedes-Benz SLK-Class (R170) - Wikipedia
3. Mercedes-Benz M112 engine - Wikipedia (E32 version is mentioned in the this link listing the crossfire)
Try to search the MB 171 engine, none. Try to reference the MB R120 or the R171 engine, nothing. Try to search other search criteria with various MB and SLK search terms with the things that don't match like R170 or R121 or R171 (the mix-up from results are amazing). Note: MB and Chrysler had a bad divorce, so MB doesn't recognize the Crossfire much hence the limited info in it's Wiki..
Anyway, I found out I was wrong, and I found out how you got to FPC euro (webpage or.AI searching) while using search engines.
The 170 and 171 classes are the platform designations. Oh, the engine in the SLK-320 and the crossfire is the M112 MB engine. I am glad I researched this so I can re-learn wth I have myself mixed up (LOL). Hope this helped you, it def helped me!
By the way, I just found out here the Launch CRP123 and the CRP123E does NOT read the SRS modules in the 2007 & 2008 Crossfires, I purchased these two trying to reset/diagnose the SRS light on my dash for why is it lit (airbag light). So many readers are not reading the Crossfire (I guess at least the 07 & 08) that it is very frustrating to have good information (these care are an enigma).
Take care!, and have fun maintaining your 05 soft top!

The link for MB World forum is https://mbworld.org/forums/. If you haven't registered you might not be able to access the forum. The MB World site uses the same format as our xfire. In the upper left corner click on Forum, the drop down will show all the MB models by body code. Select SL, SLR Roadsters, then select SLK 170 or 171. All the posts will be displayed. You can also use the search function as well.
Some of the responses to my MB related posts have been at a super high techy level. I have received pages of instructions on how to recode a specific control module function.

The most common reference for our Crossfires (N/A) is a 2003 Mercedes-Benz SLK 320. Which is a R170 platform. The SRT6 is the SLK 32 AMG. Also R170.
