Default Creaking Silver Console Trim

Ok...somewhat minor annoyance but if anyone has successfully fixed this I'd love to correct it.

The piece of silver plastic that surrounds the shift **** has become loose over time (or perhaps was loosened after the TSB fix to the reverse lockout cable adjustment for 1st gear pop-out issues...which didn't fix it BTW). I know this is the source of the creaking noise as I drive because if I press my thumb down on the plastic behind the shift **** it's completely silent.

Any recommendations? Adhesive, noise dampening insulation, etc? How easy is it to take off this piece around the shifter to get at the problem?

Thanks!

If it's like mine, just make a downshift from 6th to 5th and it'll come off. German engineering at its finest.

I had a lot of creaking noise from the silver section of the dash and center console. You just push on it and it drove me crazy. I used WD-40 on all seams where the pieces fit together. It pretty much eliminated all noise.

i wouldnt use wd- 40 because it will dry your plastic out and cause it to crack, might use silicone lube or graphite lube in aresol can.....

1. Disassemble
2. Place sticky-sided felt to contact areas
3. Reassemble

I installed a high power subwoofer and did this for my entire trunk area, which is prone to creak/rattle/squeak. I haven't had any problems.
