Default Oil Change?

This topic may be beaten to death, if so I apologize. I just picked up a 2005 crossfire and I love it.

I know it takes mobile 1 0W-40 8.5 quarts. How long should it go on an oil change? It doesn't void the warrenty to change it yourself? Also are there any other synthetic oils you can use? LOL the autozones in the area only seem to have 5 quarts at a time.

Thanks so much!
James

Your car will tell you when an oil change is due - approx 7,000 miles.
Do a search on 'FSS' on the forum - or, read the manual.
Changing the oil yourself will not void the warranty.
Read the thread adjacent to this one... 'topsider'

That it depends on your driving conditions and if you do severe driving... like stop go, short -7 mile trips, or drive in the real cold... I would change it every 3k miles... if you do standard driving with a dominant part of it being on the highway or open roads without to much standing in the sun, or the cold, I would change it every 5-6k miles...

I know some people might disagree with me, but for the peace of mind that is definitely the way to go...

Changing oil yourself does not void warranty...

The oil recommended is the 0w40, but you can probably use 5w40 as well if you don't live in the severe cold...

I found 5w40 Synthetic Havoline with Mercedes MB 229.5 approved on the label.
It's a little cheaper and the 5w shouldn't make any difference, especially in the south.
Change the oil when the car tells you to. Press the reset stem twice and it will show the miles to next service.

Well oil changes with Mobil 1 run you around $100 bucks, Motul makes a performance oil dyno proven 5 hp, for about $90 bucks you can get this stuff.

I have four cars/trucks, two boats (one I/O and the other 50HP OB), one generator and a large selection of mowers, snowblowers, etc. For the last 15 years the only oil I use is AMSOil. If you plan on keeping your vehicles a while (my SRT will be in my garage 20 years) consider it. It is not cheap to buy but seriously protects your equip. However, if you plan on trading in 3 years, Mobil 1 is good enough.

Here are some charts showing all the leading motor oils. I plan on changing my SRT oil according to oil tests.

You know the only reason I haven't switched over to Amsoil is? It sounds to good to be true... but I may just be crazy enough to switch to Amsoil for my next oil change.

I don't claim it's an answer for all things mechanical. However, since I have been using AMSOil, and some of my cars/trucks had 200,000 miles, I haven't had single engine problem associated with oil. I know my gas mileage increased in the vehicles I used it in. I have a friend who routinely gets 35,000 between oil changes. He uses the oil sample method and they tell him when to change. He is approaching 300,000.

Here's a comparison between Mobile 1 and Amsoil. It's old, but a good read.

Anyone use Royal Purple? I have been running it for the last ten years in all my vehicles. I saw a bearing test where it blew away anything esle including Mobil One. Which was what I used before using Royal Purple.
