Hi folks,

When I turn my Crossfire coupe to the right or left while the vehicle is stationary or slowly moving, there is a cracking noise from the front right wheel general area. Doesnt happen when you are travelling over 20mph. Some times the cracking noise happens a few times in quick succession. To me it sounds like a barring.

I brought it to the dealer and replicated the problem. They put it up on a ramp but could not find the problem. They told me it wasnt serious and when it gets really bad to come back. I'm most uncomfortable with this approach is case I'm doing further damage. Anybody come across this before?

As I live in Ireland and there are few Crossfires on the road, the dealers have little or no experience of the car.

I have had the same problem except it is on the left side and usually when I make right hand turns. I bought an extended warranty and took it to the dealership. They replaced the steering rack and said it was fixed. The next day the clicking noise came back. I'm going to take it back to see if they can figure it out but I want to wait awhile because I hate driving a rental. If they ever fix it, I'll let you know what they did. Good luck!

 

Hmm, well I didn't have a cracking sound, but I did have a "sound" when I first got it.

Basically on almost full lock to the right, I would get a grinding/scraping coming from the front right wheel arch area. It was slight, but it was there and only at one specific point that was most often turned through so as not really noticed.....well almost. I would describe the noise as similar to gravel being flicked up into the wheel arch, which is what I put it down to at first.

I took the car to an industrial estate where I had plenty of room to play and found the 'sour' spot whilst slowly turning the wheel and driving slowly forwards.

I got out of the car and inspected the front wheel arch. The issue was that the plastic wheel arch liner (rear part, sorry I do not know the correct nomenclature) was bent creating a bulge which just touched the tyre at a certain point in the turning cycle of the steering wheel.

I loosened off the wheel arch liner fixing bolts, straightened it out (wedges in tight, quite a job not helped by resticted access with the wheel still in place!) and retightened the bolts. Job done, problem gone

Might be worth a look, just in case?

 

I have the same issue with the wheel well. I haven't done anything with it yet, it just happened this past winter.

 

Today I inspected two other Crossfires and I noticed on one of those, the front wheel arch liner was bent/improperly fitted as mine originally was, creating a bulge.

 

We have been having a new groaning sound from the front left wheel area. Only during low speed turns and also with a change of elevation, such as when we turn off the street onto our driveway. Today the dealer tightened the wheel bearing on that side. We'll know soon if it did the trick. Our srt 6 just turned over 10,000 miles today.
