Re: How do I Jack up my XFire with a FLOOR JACK???
have Axel stands, would not work under any hydraulically suspended load...... period
looking for a way to raise my Crossfire for storage next fall, one pump at a time , then use the axel stands
Re: How do I Jack up my XFire with a FLOOR JACK???
Sorry if I was being presumptive, but the way you wrote the post, it sounded like that was your intention. And, you never know what someone might do, due to lack of knowledge or experience. I would rather make the wrong assumption and respond, than assume the poster knew better. Thanks for clearing it up, and I hope you did not take my reply in the wrong way.
I would also hate for someone that does not have enough knowledge, to read that and think.... Wow, that is a great idea.
Where are you going to be positioning the axle stands when you lift it for storage?
Re: How do I Jack up my XFire with a FLOOR JACK???
The service manual (p. 0-10) says:
When properly positioned, a floor jack can be used to lift the vehicle. Support the vehicle in the raised position with jack stands at the front and rear ends of the frame rails.
Re: How do I Jack up my XFire with a FLOOR JACK???
Too busy at work to be jacked up at home, I will search for the front and rear frame rail ends when my boss realy #$%^ me off, and that will be soon ,cos driving season is here

Thats just sheet metal and if that bends watch out.

I'd say the frame rail ends are where the four pads are. The service manual points to the four wheels or the four pads as lifting points using shop hoists and the four pads as jack or support points.
Re: How do I Jack up my XFire with a FLOOR JACK???
Thanks for asking that Rad as I was thinking the same thing. if it's on the pad, then the only way I could think is that if the entire side of the car is going up, then you jack the front, slide a stand under the rear, lower the jack and the car is still up, so then slide another stand under the front.

That would work using adjustable stands, but stands that have fixed increments would not be touching. These cars are tough to put on stands using the points indicated in the repair manual. But there again I don't know jack.
radmanly asked, If you use the pads to jack up the car, how do you swap out the jack for a jack stand? Answer, very quickly

Re: How do I Jack up my XFire with a FLOOR JACK???
Still not at home , thinking of 2 - 4 by 4 's across then using the hydraulic jacks to raise the Crossfire ,and then place the stands under the 4 bys in the area of the normal jack supports .
That said I dont know if there is clearance across the under side of a Crossfire to install a beam (4 X 4), 2 x 2 angle iron may work
Re: How do I Jack up my XFire with a FLOOR JACK???
Here is how I raise mine when I need to get it high enough to work under. I'm not recommending this to anyone, and if you try this at home it is at your own risk. /disclaimer off
Equipment needed: 2 - rolling floor jacks - The 3-ton jacks at Harbor Freight are what I use. They are well made for the money, and I've used one for over 15 years without any problems or leaks. 4 - short jack stands - Short is the key here. These cars are so low that my normal jackstands are too tall. I bought the small aluminum jackstands from Harbor Freight for the back and they work perfect for this. Again, they seem to be very well made for the money, and these cars aren't that heavy that mega-stands are required IMHO. 2 - rubber wheel chocks
First, I place the chocks around one of the front wheels.
Then, I place one rolling floor jack with a small block of wood on the cradle under the rear differential to raise the back end high enough to place two small aluminum jackstands under the rear jack pads. I know that the differential is not a recommended jacking point, but it looks pretty solid to me and so far I've had no problems doing this on any of my vehicles.
Next, I use one rolling floor jack on each side under the front jack pads to raise the front end. I place a small block of wood on top of each jack's crade to prevent any damage to the pad area, and then slowly raise each side an inch or two, alternating sides.
When the front of the car is high enough to crawl under, I slide two more jackstands under the front suspension. I place them under the lower A-arms near the spring. There is a pocket there where my shortest steel jackstands fit nicely. I then lower the rolling floor jacks slightly to put weight on the front jackstands, but leave both floor jacks in place just as a precaution and backup. This way I have the car suspended at 6 points.
To lower the car I just reverse the procedure. The Crossfire frame is very stiff, and the car will try to lift off the rear jackstands as I lift the front. I just go slowly and alternate lifting of each side to minimize this.

Re: How do I Jack up my XFire with a FLOOR JACK???
The service manual doesn't mention the differential as a jack point but it does recommend against using the suspension.
The service manual has a diagram in the frame section. I'm assuming that all of the pieces in that diagram are "frame rails." I just can't seem to match the diagram to any visible components on the car. The service manual does say that the "Body Code plate" is attached to the "top of the right frame rail" in the engine compartment. If I can find that, it may offer a clue.
Re: How do I Jack up my XFire with a FLOOR JACK???
the car has 4 hard points where to place a jack. but, if i place the jack on 1, lets say, left rear, the car lifts the whole left side, and then i place a stand on the left front.
so far so good.
then...what? i would like to place another stand under the left rear but there is the jack.
if i remove it, i guess that point drops a little and i cant place another stand at same height.
what do i do?
or, is there another way?
thanks
i know this has been dormant for a while, but i think is the way to get answers.

Re: How do I Jack up my XFire with a FLOOR JACK???
Jack the entire rear up by placing the jack under the pumpkin ( differential ) then put the stands under the jack points.
Lower jack then go in from the middle of the car to the front center where you see cross member join and jack up front there.
Place stands under front jack pads and Bob's your uncle !
Re: How do I Jack up my XFire with a FLOOR JACK???
I use the following spreader bar when lifting the sides or front ends of my cars. It offers a little extra piece of mind by spreading the load over two lifting points instead of one. It also adds a bit of stability. Great attachment for your jack, and it only costs about $50 at Harbor Freight with a coupon..

Make SURE you also supplement this type of jack with jack stands (or the like). Never trust a car not falling with a jack like this, failures of hydraulic jacks happen far too often!

.
This is just a lifting method. Never get under a car without jack stands or a hydraulic lift that has mechanical locks.
Re: How do I Jack up my XFire with a FLOOR JACK???
I use M-B jack adapters that locate directly into the jacking blocks on the Crossfire. If I need to get under the car, I'll use 2 floor jacks (I've got 4) to raise the side of the car. Instead of jack stands, I put 8x8 wooden blocks stacked 2 high to provide safety support. Don't like jack stands - too dangerous. IMO
