i just use the little square that are on the car in all four corners, have used these with a floor jack, with a 4 post lift, hell i have used it with a t-jack.

Always works, remember little black rubbery type squares on all four corners, between front and rear wheels.

Thanks,

Justin

Same here. I was amazed at how stiff our cars are the first time I jacked it up - the whole side went up at once! Guess I was used to all the floppy cars I've owned over the years.

Wow! I didn't know the whole side of the car goes up at once. I have plans to paint my calipers and was dreading having to lift each corner of the car. That will make the job go faster.

At the risk of publicizing my ignorance, I have wondered about jacking the car myself. I find the diagram in the owner's manual pretty ambiguous. If you jack under one of these four points, where can you place jack stands for safety when working under the car?

I'd hate to put a big dent or crease in the underbody.

I would like to know this also. Is it safe to place the stands on the axle?

The only time I've had mine up in the air was to change the oil. When I saw the whole side go up, I put a stand under the rear jack point - figured that if the jack let go, the stand would hold the whole thing up. I haven't had the need to poke around much under the car, but I know my roadster has some frame-stiffening braces - I would think that the ends nearest the outside of the car should be solid enough for stands.

ive ordered a sachs steering stabilizer. Anyone have any advice on installing it without ramps etc. Can I install it by jacking up one side only?

Sure...
I just installed one on FP's Roadster this past Sunday.
We jacked up the front left and put some blocks next to the jack for safety and changed it in about 15 minutes.
It's really very easy ...one bolt on each end and your done.
You need to turn the steering slightly to the left in order to get both bolts removed.

I've searched through the forums and haven't found a definitive answer to this question. Is there really no place other than the rubber jacking points to support the car?

I have my car up on 4 jack stands. I lifted the front by those little black blocks and just the car jack. I put the jack stand on the front braces and its been 5 months and no problems. After I got the front up I use a floor jack and lifted the end up using the rear diff. Then put the two rear jacks on those black block where you would normaly put the jack. Red for jack stands and yellow for the jack.

Ya it was my first crossfire. I slid into a very steep ditch that was about 10 feet deep. Dont worry it wasn't a result of jacking my car up.

and you walked away...these little dudes are tanks...my roadster is so stiff, I can lift 3 wheels off the ground if I wanted to, but I don't. I raise her up, and I have cut pieces of 2x4's as a block to set on top of the jack stand to prevent any damage to the car. I place the jack stands at the four corners where the jacking blocks are. I do these one at a time. As for changing the oil, or installing a steering stabilizer, you only need to jack up one side...right side for oil changes, left side for steering stabilizor...when I changed my brake fluid, I put up on all fours...did a gravity drain overnight. Painted calipers, put in fluid....will be doing the coupe next...

While the car may be stiff enough to lift one whole side from just one jack point, that must place a lot of stress on the frame. I'd rather only lift one corner at a time and find another place to put the jack stands.

My picture is wrong. Sorry but the two front arrows should be switched. I just noticed today when I took my car off the jack stands. 4.5 months its been in the air. What a great day for me.

Ewwww...... Please, please never get under your car with only floor jacks. The whole purpose for using jack stands are as a safety measure in the event that the floor jacks fail, and they do. Many people have died getting under a car with floor jacks. DON'T DO IT!

Best case, you will cause serious damage to your car if one or more of them fail, or a chain reaction happens if one fails. IMO, you did not solve your problem.

P.S. I would never trust lifting my baby with a $27 floor jack. Lots of potential for very bad things to happen.
