I would really appreciate some help with this, I hear this is somewhat of a common problem.

I have 04 crossfire coupe and yesterday it died on me while on the HWY, i had the car towed to my mechanic and left it there for the night. This morning I got a phone call that the car started up and has been running fine. Does anyone know what this could be?

When i put the key in ignition i get full auxillary power put the car will not crank?

If it turns out to be the Relay Control Module, you can buy them cheaper from Mercedes Benz. If you pull the relay module it will more likely than not have a MB part number on it !

Or if you're good with a soldering iron, more than likely a solder joint is broken. Repair and save yourself 170 bucks !

 

I soldered mine last night. hopefully that takes care of it. Love the smell of soldering

 

Can anyone give me a reference in the Service Manual for the relay control module? Part # 5099007AA MB # A1705450303. Looked but could not find it; need to give the dealer something to look at to prove that is the problem. Car is under warranty but no codes to support repair.

Symptoms include loss of appetite, indigestion, nausea, vomiting, constipation, headache, abdominal cramps, nervousness, and insomnia. Lead is absorbed through the mucous membranes of the lung, stomach, or intestines and then enters the bloodstream".
The following is extracted directly from the warning label on a roll of 60/40 rosin core solder.
"WARNING: THIS PRODUCT CONTAINS LEAD AND MAY CONTAIN OTHER TOXIC METALS OR CHEMICALS. Ingestion or inhalation of fumes or particles released through processing could cause lead poisoning or cancer. Absorption of lead is known to cause birth defects and other reproductive harm and may result for example in damage to the blood and neurological systems. Use only with adequate ventilation. Use NIOSH approved respiratory protection when necessary. Wash thoroughly before eating, drinking or smoking. Not for use in portable water service systems. I have had that happen to me a couple times. When I would turn the key to start i would hear the crank but it wouldnt start, did it agian a min later and i was able to get going. i dont know if thats what happened to you

 

Meanwhile if the car stalls again open the hood and on the passenger side right next to the battery is a black plastic box. If you open the box (by sliding the tabs located on the top of the box) you will see a couple of circuit cards closest to the battery side and then there's a smaller black plastic case that is on the engine side of the box (furthest from the battery side.). This is the relay control module. Smack it around a little and try to restart the car. Might work, might not.

 

Dealer finally agreed to replace the relay control module. The part will take about 3 or 4 days to arrive. Dealer must have Chrysler Tech support approval prior to replacing a module under warranty. I guess they are trying to save money since the parts come from Mercedes. They also found some minor corrision on the power control module. They cleaned it and put some diaelectic grease on it and called it good. That was interesting since the car has lived its entire life in Arizona. Oh well.

Hawk if you can keep the bad module. I'll take it from ya. Trying to do a fix for this very problem so that we can all avoid going to the dealer for this problem.

 

Sorry I already asked and they need to send it back for their analysis or to see if the dealer replaced a good part. I was interested to take a look too.

 

So did the dealer conclude it was the relay control module, or something else?

 

I assume so because that is the only part they replaced and I have had no problem since then.

 

Ok i have the same problem. Wont start then wait a few mins and it will. Took to mechanic twice. Last time actually took the print out of the solder article. He solder all connections. Now she is doing it again!! ( I named my crossfire ...Dita ) what else could b wrong??? help please im going broke trying to fix this issue. Thank you

 

this is sad i this is my 5th post on one of many issues i've had with my crossfire. Seriously look me up and look at my posts. This is another problem i've had. Expect for for me it was the crank shaft positioning sensor that went bad. Easy fix, was only 30 bucks and i put it in myself and haven't had the issue since.
