it keeps you from sliding down into your seat durring front end collisions. If you remove this part the airbag will probaly blow your head off or else snap your neck. all depends on the type of impact and if your belt is on...

it's actually easier to modify the stock power seats then to fucc with the knee bolster. remove driver side seat, then get a spot weld drill and take out the stamped-steel blocks under the rear seat mount, also have to peel away some carpet foam under seat, this will gain you a lot more room, and let you sit lower in the car.

if that's not enough, get the Base model seats, they don't have all the power motors under the chair, so they should drop lower.

The closest Picture I'm aware of is under, Technical/TSBs and How-to articles/ Sticky ignition key fix.
There are a series of pics. showing the bottom part of the dash dropped down, from the ignition switch to the light switch. Is that it?

FYI I believe the knee bolster is for USA crash standards.
I say go for it an rip it off!
It can't be that bad as the sold them in other countries without one.

The base seats also add a couple of inches of knee clearance. When I sat in one I couldn't believe how much room I had. Would have traded seats right then and there if I could have.

DJ, I would trade you happily any time, I am short and I like the SRT seats a lot LOL. Although I am very surprised you would ever take something out of a BLACK car

Cool I Removed My Knee Bolster

To start off, the car is now 6 years old. Wow! I've had it since July 2009, I am the second owner.
I plan on keeping the car for the remainder of its like and I would Definintely rather have that extra comfort, and Boy is it worth it!!
As you can see in the pictures, there are some scuff marks from me being careless and in a hurry. Do NOT let this scare you away from trying this, it really isn't as bad as it looks.
Without further ado:

Tip! The Scanner Tool Hookup slides over, and then the actual wires slide out. Took me about 15 minutes to figure this simple step out.

Void the Dremel, I only actually needed it one time. Do NOT use it to take the plastic molds off, it will only melt the plastic making it a PITA.

Close Up. (Yes, you can see some scuff marks. But honestly, it’s not like you are going to be looking at the car all the time while you’re on the ground. Normal point of view, you won’t even notice much. It was my fault for not being all that careful in the first place.
OFF.jpg

I will take some more pictures when I get my good camera back. This was the first time I have ever actually seen this done, I’m not big on being the guinea pig, But this was totally worth it! I’m 6’2” built big. It was Definitely worth the time of taking the Bolster off, so much more room!

it's not perfect, but i'm not that worried about it, it's minor and not in-your-face noticeable.
I absolutely Love the extra room.
Any questions, Any picture requests, just ask.

Thank you!

My mom yelled at me and told me the next time I wanted to alter MY car I should ask them (parents) they aren't even paying for it! and I CLEARLY remember her tell me when I was looking at getting a Crossfire "I don't want anything to do with this". Muah Ha Ha!

Hey great write up and the pic's really help. If you're worried about the scuffs you can always paint the panel.

not sure how? My seat is all the way back and all the way down.

I can finally see the traffic signal when I am first in line without ducking down. Haha.
