Hey . . great idea ! This really is not that hard to do . . . I am thinking that I will make a flat panel with some leather material (kinda like on the doors ??) that can fit over the holes . . . would be a nicer finished touch. Barring that, you could get some black or grey plastic plugs of the correct size to fit into the holes. These should be available at any upholstery shop, or auto parts supply shop . . .

Great write-up, Howard. Well done.
For me, I just yanked the b@astard off with two quick down-ward strokes of a pry bar. Looks just fine and my knees don't miss it a bit.

FYI
I got some @ ACE for the holes in my bumper.
They had a good choice of sizes, but not meany colores.

Wow i figured these were molded on from the back i took a look at this one day and gave up. But if all thats holding these on is plastic molds i might just yank it off aswell . at 6'5 these things really get in the way. At the track with a helmet on its just silly. Now i can slide forward and lean it back some and get a little more head room.

Just did the slightly less conventional forcefully pry in a downward fashion with a large screwdriver method of removing this thing. Took less than a minute and didn't even scratch or break anything. I'm 6' 1 300ilbs and this is the single greatest thing i've ever done to this car since i bought it 2 years ago. I never thought i'd ever have this much room while driving the car.

Great diy and with pics too!!! I'm 5'6 and Im going for it too. Just one question, what is the 2nd pic of after you removed the fuse cover and before you unscrew the 3 screws buy the steering colum

its a pic of the underside of the steering column around the lever for the telescoping column, it is showing that there is a small cover that has to be removed to access those three screws in the next pic. it took me a few mins to figure it out too, i actually went out and looked under the dash to figure it out.

Excellent tip on disconnecting the monitoring port connector! After the lower console is off, slide the top of the housing toward the center of the car and the connector pops right out!
FYI -- on the hood release, I had to open (operate) the lever, and turn it 90 degrees to get it to pass up through the console. After removing more screws under there than the 2006 FSM describes.

I just finished this and am very happy with how much more room I have. Great write up, thanks for taking the time to take all those pics and explain everything so well.
One thing I wanted to clarify for those who try this in the future: there is a step between pics 9 and 10 I got a little confused on: you need to unscrew (2 screws) the light control/fuse box from the underpanel, as opposed to trying to disconnect the wires from the back of it. Maybe it was just me not understanding, but just in case I'll throw it out there.

After several years, what a surprise to get an email with update about a post in Crossfire Forum! I sold my Crossfire about 4 years ago to move to Japan. I now drive a Honda Life Dunk, 660cc inline-3 Turbo mini car! I miss my Crossfire so much :-(
