Headlamps
Headlamps
Hi all
im a lady with limited tech knowledge
ive just bought a 2006 soft top Uk reg RHD
crossfire
im taking it to frsnce and need change direction if headlamps to avoid blinding oncoming vehicles but gas to be permanent ie not stickers to pass the tech test prior to playing it on French plates
ivd seen a little sticker under bonnet and wondered if this can be altered if I’ve a lot of expense to replace headlamps
many thanks

Re: Headlamps

Hello and congratulations on your Crossfire! I suggest you take it to an independent Benz garage and ask them to align the headlights to where your going to be registering the car. I am almost positive they will know how to do that as the adjustment screws on all my other cars were able to go the other way (even when I was stationed in Europe while serving in the USAF, with our sub-compact Subaru). Just be sure you tell them you want the headlights aligned to (according to your post, France?) those roads most travelled. Welcome to the best car forum I have ever been on (and there has been a lot)! Good luck!

Hi,
Crossfires are nice !
I made some instructions where to find the adjustments of the head lights:
2005 years Chrysler Crossfire: Headlights adjust and align
Maybe to some help.

Re: Headlamps
Hi once again,
I read through once more and now I see what you want to do. You have a car used for left side street driving and now move to a country where they drive on the right side.
That was more complicated, the lights have a different construction. Maybe if you can take it apart there is a possibility to change the aperature that make the light beam unsymmetric. But then you must take apart the case (light house) and it isn't easy because it's glued together, one of the more stupid constructions of this car.
What I see you have to buy to new or used lights to your car, replace them. Later you can sell your old lights to a country with left side driving. It will cost some money for work and parts, 1000+ Euros for parts and lot of work to replace them too. On the other hand, if your old lights are foggy and needs to replaced anyway there is no extra cost.
In Sweden where I live Crossfire is a very cheap car, but the cab is a little more expensive. Somewhere 6500 to 13000 Euros for a cab.
Is it an alternative to sell the car in UK and buy a new in France ?
Is the nice black cab in the thumb yours ?
Sorry for the negative information.

Re: Headlamps
Hi once again,
I try to help you and spent a couple of hours on internet.
The Crossfire has projector lamps which is a little bit easier to convert. And sometimes they are already from factory prepaired for both LHD and RHD. Then there is only a mechanical switch (Halogen bulb) to change which side. I couldn't find any instructions for Crossfire, I also search Mercedes from the same years. I think inside the lamp house they are alike. But couldn't find any information in that case either.
This is from another car to show how it's done:
https://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=440929
And here how the mask looks like when you have to replace it (from another car):
RHD to LHD headlights conversion - Engine/Electrics - UK Legacy Forums
Maybe someone who has a smashed Crossfire headlight can take it apart and investigate ?
A bad but simple solution is to just add a tape on the front glass, but not recommended and maybe note legal more than temporary:
Travel Spot - Eurolites Headlamp Beam Adaptors
You find both new and used headligths on Ebay, look very carefully that you get the correct one for France's street driving:
Search on Ebay with "chrysler crossfire headlights".
But it's to complicated for you if I understand it correct to change the headlight, then maybe better to let the workshop buy these headlights, they maybe had better price on it, ask them. There must be someone in France that are specialist in this because there are a lot of Brittish cars in France.
If you Google after more general information, use "projector headlights lhd rhd"
Sorry, that was all I could find.

Re: Headlamps
I am confused on this, on why she would need to buy separate headlights???
is France a place that want a the headlights angles so far that they shine in the ditch ?
There are 3 adjustment screws on each headlight assembly
you can adjust the low beams left to right.
most of the time, when adjusting headlights they are straight on with the vechicle.
If you want the perfect way to adjust is while on a flat surface and shining lights on a wall or garage door, from a distance of around 25 feet away.and taping off lines that are perfectly in line with the car
Did France say your cars lights where shining to far outwards ?

Re: Headlamps
Hi,
Her car if I understood everthing correct is made for the UK market. If that car is driven on "wrong" side of road the light will hit the car she meet on left side.
My own car which is imported from US has a DOT pattern, and in that case it just could be lowered if driving in UK. But I don't think it's legal, maybe temporary.

Re: Headlamps
.
This isn't going to help at all BUT I am GREATLY more confused! Page 58 of the parts catalog shows 10 (YES 10) different headlight part numbers.
LAMP, Headlamp
05097523AA 1 Z S 29 [YAB], Left, Right Hand Drive
05097524AA 1 C S 29 [YAB], Right, Right Hand Drive
05097525AA 1 C S 29 [YAB], Left
05097526AA 1 Z S 29 [YAB], Right, Right Hand Drive
05097527AA 1 Z S 29 [8DE], Left, Right Hand Drive
05097528AA 1 C S 29 [8DE], Right
05097530AA 1 Z S 29 [8DE], Right, Right Hand Drive
05097994AA 1 C S 29 Right
05097529AA 1 C S 29 [8DE], Left
05097995AA 1 C S 29 Left
Seems to me, there is something wrong with all this...
Before I spend untold GOBBS of money (of any countries currency), I would try to adjust the ones I have by sitting the car on a flat level surface about 15 ft from a vertical wall, marking on said wall with masking tape, and adjusting them until they 'aim' to about where you think they will work ON THE OPPOSIT SIDES of where they aim now. Given just about every car that comes my way literally blinds me anyway (jacking suspension, overloaded, high beams, accident damage never repaired, and idiots driving straight at me), it just boggles the mind what Chrysler would want for just a set of these parts. Also, IF you can find a set that (A) would fit), (B) is in stock, (C) is affordable and can be installed without a HUGE labor cost, then Again, I would just realign the ones I have. IF you think they are too high, lower them and drive slower or not at night.
