Steering angle sensor replacement
05 manual transmission. Car sat for LONG time. I put the battery on a slow tricking charge. Day later, BAS/ESP warning light on.
I preformed the owners manual reset. Light still on.
my shop guy with many scanners told me: need to replace my steering angle sensor.
How hard is it to R&R the SAS? I have seen on YouTube the replacement of one on a 300M. Crossfire the same?
best place to get a replacement part?
thanks, Kevin

How was the steering angle sensor reset?? Simply moving the steering wheel from lock to lock right & left probably won't do it. I just had a scan tell me the steering angle sensor needed to be initialized (DTC C1174 & C1175). I did the left right lock to lock with no positive result. However, thinking that this may require a driving cycle like so may other codes to reset I drove my car a few hundred yards moving the steering wheel to full lock right three or four times and back to center. Then when I straightened out and drove just ten or twenty yards the dash warning lights went off and I was back to normal.
You may have to take your car for a short drive moving the wheel to full lock then back to center several times after doing the normal reset procedure to clear the light.

Thanks for the input-ideas.
i did drive the car some distance however didn’t do the left to right to center part. I will try again soon.
my “trusted” mechanic is talking about $950 to replace the SAS and reset everything.

New ones are like $300; used on ebay for about $30. Depends on your budget.

A clue maybe ( Car sat for LONG time. I put the battery on a slow tricking charge. Day later, BAS/ESP warning light on. I preformed the owners manual reset. Light still on. ). Are you sure your battery is GOOD? Even a wet cell needs care, not left alone for a 'LONG time'.
.
The other day I was doing some inspection work on my 2007 Coupe & decided to connect to the OBD port & see if any codes were present. Found these four listed: C1038, C1174, C1178, C1279. All of these tie back to the Clock Spring and/or Steering Angle Sensor. I have cleared all of these out, but haven't driven the car since. Probably will take the Coupe for a short drive tomorrow & see if these get generated again.
