Neither the anti-theft nor the remote lock/unlock work in my new to me 2004 coupe. Cannot just lock from console since does not work if door is open and if lock when closed it unlocks when open door. At least know the pump and electronics work.
Consequently bought a cheap remote keyless entry device from Amazon but have a question:
Initially I though the easiest way would be to wire into the console switch but turns out to reach requires removal of the radio.
Is there an easier place to access the lock/unlock wiring ? Perhaps at the pump ? YWTK
The only way I know, is to trick the SKREEM into thinking you are using the key in the door. So, get into the wiring from the driver's door and wire your lock/unlock lines from the new module to those wires.
This way, the SKREEM takes it from there, and the alarm won't go off, etc. as the SKREEM "thinks" you are putting the key in the door and locking/unlocking in an "approved" manner.
One way is to tear the dash out and get to the connector on the SKREEM, but I THINK C228 is under the dash on the left hand side - easy to get to if you drop the underdash.
Just keep in mind that the SKREEM is located behind the speedo to make it hard to get to, sure, but it is also up hign, surrounded by plastic, which gives your FOB more range, so placing your module up there might be a good idea, even tho it seems like a lot of work to get in there, to me, anyway.

Thank you I'll look but do not think the anti-theft is working at all.
Adding an RKE module is not going to help you with that. You need the existing system fully functional in order to make an aftermarket RKE work.
It all starts with the SKREEM. The driver door lock cylinder AND the FOB both cause the SKREEM to send a lock signal to the Body Control Module (BCM). The BCM sends messages on CAN BUS B to the CLP/SSM telling it to "lock all locks and set the alarm". When you hit "unlock" or turn the cylinder to "unlock", the message sent is: "Unlock and unset the alarm".
If you hit the lock button on the console, the BCM tells the CLP/SSM: "Lock the doors, but don't set the alarm".
You must use the SKREEM to manage this unless you can decode how the interactions between the SKREEM and BCM work at point "B" in the diagram. You can find these connections in the service manual, it does not look that hard, but I'm not going to disturb these connections in my car to find out, if you do,please come back and tell us how it works.
But unless you are REALLY GOOD with CAN BUS communications (and I sure as hell am not), you cannot directly talk to the CLP/SSM.

Is a bit of a nightmare since cannot lock from the console if the door is open and if lock with door closed, it unlocks when door is opened.
Do not need full function, just the ability to lock the doors/hatch when outside the car or (not ideal) disable the door open unlock all. Do not need to unlock can do that with key, just lock.
Even just a LOCK button in the wheelwell or under the hood would work.
ps everything I am seeing says a PO has completely disabled the SKREEM so neither key nor fob sends a signal to the BCM (point B) but dome lights and console switches do work.
However the console switch works and does not seem to be anything special, however only powered when key on. Have wondered about just disabling the driver door open unlock function. That would be enough for now & should just be one wire.

Its not "one wire" its in the code of the CLP/SSM. This is all in the service manual.
Well here is part of page 8W-65-4 of the '04 service manual. Looks like I can cut one BR/GY wire and prevent the door-open unlock function. That would allow locking from the console but might also prevent the dome light from coming on.
ps suspect the anti-theft (if there) gets upset about improper unlock and not lock. Would really like to find out the history but seems to have been through auction a few times and may be why was cheap.
