Default Radiator Fan

Hey all, i kept getting a radiator symbol flash once in a while or actually stay on for a few minutes and then go off. I live in the country so seldom traffic or lights, usually just cruise. Anyway, the fan wasn't running,
temperature started to climb in a parking lot, above half which it never does? Sure enough, bearing tight on fan motor, can hardly turn by hand. Checked the module and have 12VDC. Anyone put one of these in? looks easy, $80.00 amazon,
the whole assembly.....just wondering also what the module is for? Does it vary speed? Seems like a relay would do the job if it is not variable.

The fan assembly has become a fairly common failure item, they drop right in. I've had to yank mine in order to add the oil pressure gauge and also to change the alternator.

The light comes on telling you that the ECU sees a problem with the cooling system, the problem is, the Fan Module is telling the ECU that the current going to the fan motor does not match what the Fan Module expects.

Read the attached PDF.

The fan speed does vary depending on demand, A/C on/off, coolant temperature.

Easy to replace/install: separate electric connector on drivers side, use a small screw driver get under the two metal retaining clips and remove the clips, lift fan up and out. You will need to wiggle around some of the coolant hoses, but they all remain connected, just get them out of the way as you lift. When you install and get near the bottom be sure both tabs get inserted into their respective slots and reconnect the electric connection. I use a small screw driver to get under the tabs on the electric connector to help separate the two halves.

Appreciate the info, easiest fan I ever pulled! I'll have the new one today. That explains the module, varies speed. I did check the output of the module and it's 12VDC. I was a little worried it might be fried cause the bearing ceased on the motor.
Thanks again and to Pizzaguy for that PDF....
