Thanks for the photos so far, now uploaded here ( including a cheeky one from an unnamed source ! :

http://www.flickr.com/photos/8238800@N08/

Let me know if you have any problems seeing them. I am going to try and add some pituresque ones of mine taken in the next few days. Can I enourage everyone to have a go. Remember to really think about what is in the background, the lighting conditions and avoid camera shake. Take a few of each shot and pick out the best. You will all live near some interesting part of the UK for a photo. it is perefectly possible to take high quality pictures with todays compact digital cameras, you don't have to have an SLR.

The more variety we have for the calendar the better. Come on, don't be shy !

Paul...Beeblerox. Picture file viewing was fine for me.. I assume that your idea of numbering the picture is that those purchasing will eventually select the final choice for the calendar and the thirteen picture's most voted for will be used..

What we need now is a comitted numbers of purchasers for the Calendar! to make it a viable proposition. Time scale will I guess depend on this, and the speed we supply Paul with our picture's.

I haven't fully thought this through yet but assume we need to be able to buy calendars from 1st week in December then ideally all done and dusted by end of Nov, voting taking place last week in Nov gives until end of next weekish , say 23rd Nov, to get pictures up on the site to vote on.

Yes the numbers are to allow a vote to take place.

I'm winging this a bit and making it up as I go along !

My impression of the Lulu web site is that unless the quantities exceed 300 ( unlikely ) then buying anything from 1 to 299 is the same price with no minimum spend. They print as you order, a bit like Moonpig cards ( which I use extensively). Therefore I don't believe we need to commit to any quantity. We can make the calendar "public" which means that anyone can buy from the web site. When doing this you set your price against the charge that Lulu make per calendar. Therfore there is an option to make a profit. I don't believe we want to do that and intend to charge to the penny what Lulu charge me and therefore sell "at cost" with zero profit.

I haven't actually done this yet but did play around with various options and looked at their FAQ and some reviews. Might be an idea if someone else checks this out in case I am confused.

cheers

Paul

I used Microsoft Publisher for the New England Region calendar. Saved the pages as .jpg and put them in my gallery (See Region New England) Publisher has a great calendar temolate and gallery makes access easy for download/print to any member.

Thanks for that idea Nightrider, I will look into that.

Everyone : I stopped on my way between offices today and took photos 20 - 23 on the flikr site. This is my route to work.. just made for a Crossfire

Now I'm not saying these are competition winners but taken in 15 minutes on the side of the road with a Canon 5 Megapixel compact camera. It's that easy !! Get snapping.

You know, I don’t actually have a decent "snap" camera. I have one which is a great sketch book camera, but it’s resolution is now worse than some mobile phones! Prints from it aren’t great - I get book of my pictures made up by Aple from time to time and the resolution is to poor to make a decent image. My big chunky Canon DSLR just won’t fit in a pocket, so spontaneous snapping for anything other than screen display is off the cards for the time being.

Hopefully I’ll be rectifying this problem next year if the rice for the camera I like the look of is right. It’s that or the second hand medium format beast I’ve seen....

it has been suggested we "get personal" and have more pictures with their owners in the frame. Do crossfire owners grow to look like their cars like dog owners ?

Another suggsetion that we wait to have more exciting pics from the Dec 7th meet ( which I can't go to .. boo hoo ... ) that does mean that shipping costs go up if you want a calendar before Christmas. If you don't mind getting a calendar in January then no problem, it would also reduce costs if people club together who live near each other and combine orders.

Any views ?

Paul

Woulld be good to include the Xmas meet pictures in the 2008 calender, plus a few pictures including owners with their Xfires..and perhaps a group shot.

Time scale..speaking personnally I would pay a little extra for delivery by Christmas..but also waiting to January is not a problem for me.

We really should give Paul..beeblebrox..our view's, thoughts, and pictures regarding the calendar sooner than latter.

Hi everyone,
more photos added. Keep then coming. I have had suggestions from a couple of you for some more photos to be added in the next couple of weeks. Reminder here is the link :

http://www.flickr.com/photos/8238800@N08/

One thought I had is that if anyone wants to hide their registration number we can achieve that in photoshop and will check with anyone whos picture we want to use.

keep 'em coming !

I have created a seperate FLIKR "set" for each venture.

cheers

Paul..Beeblebrox.Good to see on the 7th Dec. Its a bit quiet on the photo posting so maybe we have all that we are going to get.

Any time scale when we can nominate pictures for our 2008 Calendar. Are we to late for a delivery before Christmas?

Ken.

Ken,
agreed. We may as well start voting. If anyone has any pictures to add please be quick !!

Unless you pay a lot for shipping then you can't guarantee delivery before Christmas. I suggest we group together to save costs on shipping whatever we do.

Anyway lets vote and get started ! Each picture is numbered.

Hi Paul, On ther photo voiting can we nominate more than one picture?

Group purchasing. Will the gain not be lost in the repacking and reposting of the calendar's? Could we get an idea of the full cost cost before and after Christmas delivery from the supplier/printer of the calendars.

Cheers

Ken.

I will do a group email to all on the contact list to inform them its calendar voting time.

Ken and everyone,

shipping :

I have put some test orders in to see what happens when you try and buy a calendar. The "Flat rate" is £4.28 suggested delivery time is 4 weeks.

To get it before xmas now it would have to be ordered by the 16th and cost £14.12 or by the 18th at a whopping £82.36. These costs are to rush production and ship from the states.

Voting : I suggest vote for as few or as many as you like. Perhaps an ideal number is your favourite 13. I suggest we see what the top 13 is and just make sure there is a reasonable mix.

I have started us off on have put my votes on 13 pics on the Flickr site under :

http://www.flickr.com/photos/8238800@N08/

"Xfire votes so far" and the pictures are all in "All Crossfire Pictures"

E-mail me direct, or PM me or post on the forum, whatever suits you. I will keep the "Xfire votes so far" set up to date with the voting.

I started with 22 favourites and with difficulty chopped my selection down to 13.

Get voting quickly !

Any suggestions on a cut off date ?

Paul

Hi All. I have sent my Calendar picture vote's direct to Paul vie email, rather than on this open post for all to see.

I intend to use the four week order option, which will allow me to purchase a few calenders without braking the bank.

Ken.

Our Gym has just published a calendar for Christmas all done for charity.

they used photoshop calendar feature to design it then used our office printer to run off 50 copies , we have a binding machine as well.

These were printed on the correct paper and they look excatly like what you woul buy in a shop

Having read you were looking to buy them when dont we do the same thing !

The gym have offered me their photoshop profile so we could just change the pictures over, who wants the job?

Also definatley use the more abstract shots, and dont use the one of you guys all standing together as it wil scare small children

That sounds like a good deal. I'm not a photoshop expert, could have a go though. Can I check, are you saying that you can get them printed and bound ? If so, any idea of the cost ?

cheers
