Crossfires now worthless!
This is a very nice 2005 Graphite Auto Coupe with Red Nappa Interior, 28K miles FOR SALE on Ebay - first £4500 buys it! (its not mine) The living proof that our cars are now worthless - sad times eh! It now makes more sense to keep the Xfire for ever, and when its completely worn out, have it mounted on a concrete plinth on the front lawn! Or, rade up right now to 5 year old VW Polo.

Value is in the mind of the owner - I would NEVER sell my Crossfire and really don't care what monetary value other people place on it! Driving it is priceless. The attention it gets is priceless. As is the permagrin.
I find it remarkable that Crossfires are considered so "worthless", but everyone LOVES them. People remark about how great mine looks everywhere I go with it.

Steve sober up it doesn't matter what you can sell your car for. That is a fantastic piece of machinery in your photo. You've even got the cool interior. It's a damn Mercedes, people are stupid and broke, all markets suck. Drive that car with pride it's fantastic!
It was obvious the price of the crossfire was in freefall a year ago thats why i bought an SR-T last December and traded in my normal crossfire. I like the car so much i thought i would buy for as a keeper.
The depreciation is not relevant to me. i have owned a lot of cars in my time and the best was a new Jag XK8 which i sold for half its value 2 1/2 years after buying it paid £63,000 and sold it for £32,000 that taught me never to buy an expensive car again i think the crossfire althought nowhere near as refined as the jag has a lot going for it, sure the interior is a bit lame and the switch gear and the plastic centre console are awfull. but ban for buck the SR-T is a much better buy than the XK8
the worst thing about the price fall in the UK is that hairy arsed fat men with tatto's will be buying them as a runaround
Keep your rides

I think folks just dont understand the car, it had poor marketing from the begining. The Chrysler branded cars (to me) allways seemed to depreciate quickly in the UK due to a poor reputation for quality. The Chysler name has been given to some naff cars over the years (Chrysler Avenger, Chysler Imp, etc).
The fact that our Chrysler is buit on a M/Benz platform should give confience, but folks seem to be even more confused about its pedigree. Most motorists dont understand how incestouse the industry is in supplying its components to other makers, (Porsche 924 has a Volvo engine)
If it had the M.B. badge on the hood its value would have been sustained, but, then it would have cost double when new!
Cars! the curse of mankind!

This is what one of my friends said about my car on FaceBook recently:
She’s right on this, I think. You have to remember that cars go through a “crap” phase before they come out the other side. Prices and values drop, but then after a few years they will start to climb. The car already has a but of a cult following here – as long as that enthusiasm is maintained, you may find that it has the longevity. The key word in there is “may”. These things tend to happen by accident and osmosis rather than by planning. This site shows that there is the fan base.
Whatever happens, my plan is to cling to mine for as long as is humanly possible. It turns heads. People seem to like looking at it. It starts conversations with complete strangers. It’s also the only one in the area.
i should hang onto yours - may become a classic in yrs to come with a nice price tag

What's that in US dollars? I'm too lazy to convert, but if I have to, I will. If it's cheap enough, I wonder if a US buyer could buy it and bring it to the US. Would that then be the first RH drive XF here in the states? Be cool at the GTG's.
edit: Is that 6500 or so US?

Yep, the low prices are depressing but its not limited to Crossfires, the whole car market is in freefall - brand new 30 grand spec 350Zs are going for 17 grand, buy an new RX8 and get a Mazda 1 free - 70 grand Porsche Cayennes for 12 grand after a couple of years - the world's gone mad!
I have been hit very hard since I bought mine new but I didn't buy it for the resale value, I bought it because I wanted one and its an absolute keeper for me anyway, so what the hell
Its actually good news as far as I'm concerned as I looking to buy another one next year to go racing in

the red interior is not the best. as they seem to have peeling issues in several cars.
crossfires in general are built with the cheapest Mercedes Benz components. they fall apart a lot. but this is a good thing because they are fun to drive and beat on. And soon the performance market will catch up. then we'll all be having a blast for little cash spent.

Steve,
I used to own a Chrysler Avenger and it was crap, things have moved on a bit with the Crossfire and I think the car is ACE!
Ps, my wife drives the Crossfire most of the time and she says if I sell it she will divorce me, now that's always an option should the going get tough.
