Anyone in the UK Can Tale a Look at my XFire?
Hi all,
Is there anyone in the UK can take a look at a problem with my XFire?
Symptoms:
Starts from cold first time, everytime
Once warm key in, turn, turns over but doesnt start - key out, turn, turns over but doesnt start, key out, turn, turns over but doesnt start - key out, turn, turns over and starts. Sometimes I can feel some movement on the clutch pedal before it fires, like its freed something. Sometimes it will start on the second attempt, sometimes it takes 3 or 4 tries.
Note:
Mine will also start (both from cold and warm) without being in first gear.
I would rather try and get a knowledgeable XFire enthusiast to take a look than trust a garage.
Willing to travel up to 100 miles (ish) from Preston. I'm not asking this question to get something done for free, more than happy to pay good money for your time etc - just want my pride and joy fixing, properly
P.S. If you're happy to service the car whislt its there even better. Again, happy to pay for this and will bring all the parts which you recommend.

Sounds like mystery no start-problem. Need to resolder some points. Might also be the crank positioning sensor. use the search and you'll find a lot on these two topics.

Since it's a stick, could be the lock-out switch on the clutch. Switch keeps you from starting it in gear with the clutch engaged. Starting and running rough, cranshaft position sensor, no start at all, or quits when warm and no starting at all, RCM. Relay Control Modul. Bad solding on it's circuit board. There are threads on here that discuss these issues if you care to use the search feature and see which one closely describes your problem. Good luck, as I would come take a look at it, but cost might be a problem....lol

Also the car will start in any gear and neutral as long as the clutch is depressed.

I would try the crankshaft position sensor replacement for a start, it is not the classic for this but it could be a variation of the symptoms and a spare CPS is not a bad thing if it does not work. The camshaft position sensor also may be a problem.
Are any codes set? That would be the very first test I would do, the check engine light may or may not be on.

Personally I think the safest would be that it had to be in neutral and with the pedal depressed, or just in neutral to start the engine. If the clutch failed or if your foot slipped when you are starting the car in gear it could launch with the possibilities of dire consequences.
I'd check for codes as a first step to solving the problem. Not much fails without leaving a code.

Avoid the Chrysler dears for code reading, they will charge £120 + Vat to do this which only takes 10 mins max.
Look on net for your nearest Bosch Lucas agent they are all over the country. They will charge
£25 + Vat for the same thing.
They will read the fault codes collected in the cars memory chip, and print these for you, and tell you what they mean. They will then delete the codes from the car, and then give you the chance to experience/repeat the fault again, and then read the code again to prove that the repeated code is the issue. Now you have a chance of getting fixed without wandering in the dark. Then ask them for a quote to fix it
When you have got that bit sorted, if you need a service PM me!

I always start with the clutch depressed but it will start without touching the clutch
