Default Wheel bearing

Hi, i need to replace one,if not both front wheel bearings.I have found out that the rears need a special tool to get them out but cannot seem to find out about the fronts.Am i right in thinking once the hub nut has been released the bearing just comes out,and is this a straight forward diy job.Look forward to your replies.....

Not to hard, did both fronts on mine about a year ago. The only problem I had was getting the dust covers off to access the bearing, use a small chesel and rubber hammer. Looks like its a solid peice but the covers will come off. Not to sure about the rears though...

Well i was all set to do the bearings myself last week but could not get the dust covers off.Decided to take to my local garage instead. It turns out they only needed tightening up so it only cost me half an hours labour at £36. For that money it was not worth the hassle of doing it myself...

On my Prev Xfire I noticed a tiny bit of excesive play and when I had my 1st m.o.t. at 3 yrs old and at about 24k they did remark on this, so when I got home I gave the hub nuts a half turn and cured it. I have noticed several owners getting new bearings fitted in the USA but a little adjustment should be enough. I don't believe these bearings are wearing any more than they should for the mileage, and we should get 100k out them. I reckon they are set up to have plenty of play when new

Hi, I have done 27,000 .They reckoned the bearings themselves were in great condition, just needed a bit of tweaking.

Yea, getting the dust covers off looks tricky cause it looks like a solid piece, when I hit around the cover with a rubber mallet I thought I cracked the dust cover instead of knocking it loose. Turned out thats where it came appart to access the bearing! **** me...

That's good news. Mine should be OK for a few more miles with only 11k then.

Cheers
