Question Now an xf owner couple of issues need help with?

Instead of getting my other thread muddled with me adding side stories, I'd thought I'd post here with a couple of issues I need help with?
Got myself a blue/silver 04 xf coupe today & have a couple of issues I need help with:

1: Bulb with ! Symbol within it On dash - manual says bulb fault but I cant see a fault with any, All seem ok

2: airbag light come on & stopped on? Any clues here folks

3: vehicle pulling to the left when drivng - tyre pressure, tracking?.

4: only 1 key came with the car & as I'm a forgetful so & so I'd like to get a copy...any suggestions on how/who?

Any decent places near to tamworth, staffs that are good for diagnostics error findng/fixing etc?.

Also ally's are in need of a refurb....nothing major but I'd like to get that fresh look just wondering how much the going rate is for a refurb so I don't get ripped off.

Thanks or all your time & help, I appreciate it & look forward to many hours in my xf & shooting the breeze with you fellow xf'ers

The usual spot to miss is the TWO bulbs above the rear license plate.

Oh my, another issue with a BLUE crossfire ..... j/k

#1 agree with 180

#2 check airbag switch at right side of dashboard when door is open, try turning it on or off. (not sure if this is on opposite side because they put the steering wheel on the wrong side across the pond)

#3 check tire air pressure all around ..... possible alignment .... steering dampener

#4 need to take vin# to Chrysler dealer and have them order one specific for your car. You can program the key yourself when you get it by doing a search here. Might be expensive, but programming it yourself will save money.

Good Luck

The HID conversion could caurse the waning light to be on, also as the headlamps have been messed with, have the sidelights been fitted with LED bulbs? this will also put the warning light on even though the sidelights are working.

Question Re: Now an xf owner couple of issues need help with?

To be honest I really haven't a clue, is it easy to revert to standard lighting format if it makes the mot a problem.
Since its belting it down with rain here it has also developed a water leak I believe from where the boot joins the top of the car, could be where the cabling goes in & rubbish has perished?.
Steering seems better now I sorted out tyre pressures, I can't work out how to turn on/off the airbag to eliminate the error light.....any clues?...what does it look like?

I just did a search, and found out that European crossfires don't have a switch that enables the air-bags to be turned on and off. So ..... stop lookin for one ..... my bad.
These switches were mandated in the United States, because of the laws regarding children sitting in the front seat.

you cannot turn off the air bag light. For what ever reason, someone had the air bag out and messed with it which caused the "light" to come on. It has shut down your air bag system. Only an authorized dealer with the "star" system can reset it. Been there done that when I had a door skin replaced.

Yeah did a hpi check mate all came back fine, all shut gaps seem equal to...hopefully not a big thing to sort
What do I do regarding the airbag light, surely you must be able to turn on/off the airbag?

In the states we can, but if someone has had one of the side door impact/ or frontal impact bags out, and happened to turn the key on while they were out, well that triggers the light and shuts down the system. Only a dealer can reset it. You can take the bags out to do repairs, but can't turn the key on...someone did in your case. Sorry...

mate if you`ve only had it for a couple of days and the airbag light is on, light out indicator is lit, waterleak in boot and whatever else has happened...did you get it from a dealer or private if a dealer i would be straight back at them especially about the abs light, probably just a sensor or something simple but not what you should expect when you`ve just bought the car...just my 2 cents worth....chris

Have to agree with you chris.

doggboy, if you got it private it looks like you have been had!! it looks like you bought a pup mate, but for 3 grand you cant really complain, if it costs a grand to put it right you will have your self a good car for a good price. If you can't throw it into a garage and have all the work done, listen to peeps advice on here on how to put things right and you will be ok.

Got it from a dealer but he said sold as seen as it does have a few issues that need attending....just need to get them done one by one I suppose?.
Who do I see about airbag issue.....Chrysler direct?.....got someone to look at leak on Thursday, light error not got a clue what to do really...bit stumped?
Going to put 2 new fronts on with which I get free alignment so hopefully pulling issue gets rectified.
The interior & body work is in great condition mostly apart from water stain from aforementioned leak which i think will dry and clean out pretty easily, and to be honest I can live with those error lights so all in not completely disheartened.
Will it fail mot on any of the mentioned errors?.
And if all else fails I'll chop it in to a dealer for a boxster or something lol

All those are issues that come up on the car sooner or later. Someone just didn't take care of the car. The light indicator was addressed above. Long story short, if the correct bulbs aren't in there, or it had HIDs, then the light is going to come on. The car is very voltage sensitive. The airbag light has to be reset by the dealer, here it is a $100. But, since it was on, I would have them take a look to make sure none of the bags has been tampered with. They are worth a small fortune. The leak is somewhat common, but if I am going to purchase a car, as is, I think I would have done a better job of doing my research, as this car may have been wrecked at some time or another and the repair wasn't all that good...good luck my friend, you bought it right, just need to do some research and repair...we are here to lend a hand...

I did all the research best as could, & had a former mechanic neighbour look over it who said apart from the issues mentioned its in good nick, I did all the hpi checks etc....all came back ok, checked best I could for smash damage creased pillars, gaps etc.....when I drove it before buying it didn't pull then, it developed it on the way home....think I may have a slow puncture.
Airbag light came on on way home also can't do much about that.
Anyone know of a good, reliable garage/mechanic that knows there way around these things in the midlands area?.
As stated once I get the things sorted I will have a decent amount of car for good money.

Good to hear...I think you have it a good price in order to fix it up....hopefully someone in your back yard will help you with a garage that can do the repairs...but, the air bag will be a Chrysler Dealer fix, or anyone with the "StarDas" system...local MB dealer, but I doubt it...

That last reply of mine was a bit of a cover up really, I am somewhat worried & deflated at the fact as what started off as a new dad toy bit of enjoyment could end up costing me money I simply don't have, & I feel guilty to my wife & 4 month old boy Charlie that there so called protector has possibly messed up
I'm a hard working normal lad who fancied a bit of fun as my life has changed so much but when fun turns to all out panic that's where my worrying nature kicks

I relently bought my crossfire from a dealer and he explained that there was no such thing as 'sold as seen' these days. Any trade seller is legally obliged to make sure a car is fit for purpose and provide a 3 month warranty minimum. You will need to confirm this but as far as i know this is an absolute law.
This is why they hate taking old cars as part exchange - he had to put my old Ford on ebay and loose money rather than put it on the forecourt for a higher asking price and risk a new owner making all sorts of claims.

dont panic just work through the issues, might be worth looking on the MB forums for an independant mercedes specialist with star diagnostics in your area, you will have to register but its free then scroll down to the appropriate part (think its specialists across the uk)....you paid £3000 if it cost you another £500 to get sorted (which it shouldnt) you will have a great car for £3500
