As I have mentioned in one of your other threads, from Jan 2012 all warning lights are checked in MOT, here it is again

MOT changes from 2012 | AA

considering that info, I would think anyone selling a car as a dealer would be obligated to fix the issues...good luck mate...hope it works out for you....and nothing wrong with having a little pleasure when you work hard....you will do the right thing...

This is why they hate taking old cars as part exchange - he had to put my old Ford on ebay and loose money rather than put it on the forecourt for a
higher asking price and risk a new owner making all sorts of claims.
I was going to post the same thing - sold as seen is no longer a legally usable excuse to sell iffy cars - take it back. The airbag light etc are safety items so feel free to kick off about them with the dealer. A puncture and a bulb out can happen to anyone anytime so are not relevant.

Update on the car....went to see the dealer today & wednesday he's going to fix the leak (the rubber seal/bung thing around the wiring loom next to boot opening latch has split & taking in water), Would it be best to just seal the leak with some silicone rather than replace the bung, As that would require removing wires etc I believe?.
He's also going to get the airbag issue sorted, & he's going to put 2 new front tyres on as well.
I just need to get someone to look at the hid xenon lights & remove them if they are an mot fail as they are causing the error light on the dash.
Any clues on removing stains (water intake) from the upholstery ceiling?...can it be done?.
So hopefully getting somewhere near to the car I want.
Oh yeah also out of interest whenever opening/unlocking the car there is a sort of motorised noise coming from within the boot which lasts a few seconds then switches off.....is this normal?
Once it's all sorted I may go & px for another one lol

P.s. steering isn't the greatest on these things is it? Ha ha, but getting used to be a lazy automatic bugger!

Wow power to the people!

I would best describe the steering as isolated. It's precise enough, but there's no indication of the road's characteristics transmitted...

Think the steering has a mind of its own to be fair, pot holes...dodgy roads send it a bit loopy

Well done on getting the dealer fixing things. I think the steering is the cars single biggest problem, it reminds me of a Datsun Sunny from 1970 something New tyres might help though. Shortly everyone will tell you to replace the steering damper which while being cheap also made no difference to mine. Must have been one of the last cars made without rack and peanut steering (thanks Homer ), especially on a sports car.

Yeah I do agree buddy and will look at getting them fixed soon enough, any clues on the motorised/pump noise emitting from the boot when unlocking/locking?......read that it is central locking pump on the way out and I fear that is going to cost me a few quid?

Interestingly, both of my cars emit a sound as you describe from the hatch area when locked/unlocked and have as long as I have owned them. I'm interested to know where you read this was not normal?

The "buzz" sound is very brief and ends with a metallic "click", I presume it is from movement of the latch mechanisim.

Question Re: Now an xf owner couple of issues need help with?

Bit worried about this central locking pump issue & the fact that mine is staying on for longer than usual, if this were to go what would happen?.
Can I not just use the key to unlock the door to save the pump being used?.
How much am I looking at to fix this issue & I've been looking for the central locking pump part but couldn't find anything on the net?.
Slightly regretting getting my xf now been more trouble than it's worth.

These units are in the well in the trunk and there are occasions when they get water in the well and damage them.
You should be able to see any water by looking between the rear of the foam cover and the steel wall. It is probably on the right hand side of the car like ours are. Check with the fob when you are in there.
If there is water, get it out and find the source of the leak.

They affect the lighting and security if they are faulty, they are not cheap either.

The length of time may be due to a leak in the hoses somewhere making it longer to get up to pressure, normally leaks mean they do not work but a small leak may just mean it takes longer to operate.

Oh bugger not something else to worry my already panicking self....it's aged me about 10 years buying a bloody xf lol, can I just not use the central locking system & unlock manually? Or do you have to use the key buttons to unlock & perform certain operations, I don't mind unlocking via key if it helps prolong the pump.
Once the dealer has sorted other issues with the car, tomorrow hopefully I'm seriously considering a part exchange already....been a warning I think

Take ten deep breaths and relax. It may be just the simple air leak or a sticky valve.

Check for water and maybe hisses around the top of the hatch door and report back. You are not alone on this.

see you should have waited and bought mine

only joking but something to be said about buying club members cars, more often than not they will have been very well maintained.(like mine)

stick with it, nothing major wrong with your car just little niggley things!

but if you really want to part x it, I have a very nice MGZTT 260 with a V8 4-6L Mustang engine.

Another update after a bloody long day - Stock take, machine breakdowns & having to take a big boys toy back & forth to garage don't mix to well.
Anyway got car back from dealer today (who to be fair has been good) broken rubber seal (causing leak) fixed, 2 brand new front tyres, airbag checked & error light reset.
Said they checked for errors to the locking pump & couldn't find anything, but said if it goes within 3 month warranty period he will have a look at sorting it out.
I had a good look at engine back at work....not for any particular reason but a work colleague was intrigued (& somewhat jealous) & there is a brand new alternator in there, so that's good.
Think the handbrake may need tightening or something? as it creaks & moves forward slightly when parked on slope (our driveway has a slope to it) but being an auto in park mode shouldn't really matter I believe?.
So startng to feel more relaxed & starting to enjoy my car now, bit dodgy steering aside it drives lovely & being auto it makes a lazy driver out of you
Just need to get the water stains out of headliner as best as possible (not to bad now they've dried a little), the interior on the whole is in excellent condition as is the body work.
Had it in the work unit today & everyone was very impressed by it & couldn't believe the amount of car for the money, neighbours have commented "you robbed a bank or something?" or the lad over road commenting "nice to see the mid lifer is starting early" lol.

Anyway enough of my drivel....sorry to be a panicky/droning divot & I promise to be a little more upbeat (till next crisis lol).

Cheers

Rob.

P.S. anyone recommend some nice (& cheap as possible) seat covers?
