Default Finally getting one !!! Wooohooo

Hi guys, first of all I live in Essex ( near clacton on sea)and ive just sold my beloved Hyundai coupe V6 ( that I pretty much turned into an Aston Martin looks wise) and cos the project was over I just sold it.
I've had my eyes on crossfires for years now and I think it's now the right time to finally get myself one
Coming from Hyundai coupe forum I know that newbies are often annoying asking random questions that have already been asked thousands of times but hey gotta start somewhere !

Apart from the obvious things what specifically am I looking for before buying the car ? ( any rust , engine, exhaust, or any other issues to look out for with the crossfire ?)
The one I might be buying tomoz if it's right has 40k miles, metallic red, satnav, 54 reg, asking price £5k... ( might try to haggle a little bit hehe)

Any thought or comment more than welcome
Thanks

pienty out there you should be able to find one that suits you as ken said all the info is on the forum...just do the checks you would normally do when buying a car, check for rust under the doors and around the tailgate catch, oil changes can be expensive due to needing synthetic oil and the amount they take although it is easy to do yourself, tyres can be expensive...best of luck....chris

Thanks for the replies guys, I will defo check out previous posts to get a bit more knowledge on the xfires, so far I've read a few stuff about a booster that helps the acceleration due to drive by wire, read few horror stories about rust issues, and also most importantly if I damage the car, from insurance point of view, they ll try to write it off as spares are getting hard to get by !

But I like my quirky, stand out of the lot, cars so I WILL get a xfire.

Is the manual version really that bad ? If it is then is the semi automatic standard or depending on models? Cos I don't wanna be stuck with a full on automatic without being able to at least change gear tiptronic style.

Not gonna have time to have a look at the car tomoz as I've just finished work and I'm gonna be knackered ! So hopefully it will still be up for sale on tuesday

Really excited

Welcome to the forum. Don't be turned off by what you have read about the manual shift cars. I'm sure they don't shift as nice as your old Hyundai, but they're really not that bad. 1st. to 2nd. can be a little notchy at times, but it usually improves with age, and when the transmission warms up.
Most owners with the automatics seem quite satisified with their "slap stick" style of up and down shifting. Some have installed paddle shifts as well.
The door rust is an easy problem to fix yourself, but living near the salt air may be a concern as mentioned.
You can't get a better sports car for the price of a Crossfire, so good luck with your search.
Oh, and if you have any photos of your "Aston Martin" Hyundai, I'd like to see them.

Yes, buying a crossfire is an exciting time, but don't rush to buy, take you're time, there are plenty out there at great prices for the buyer. Not a good time to sell, as I will find when I swap my Roadster for a Coupe.

Good Luck

Ken.

if it helps I just gave £6,100 for my 06 coupe - 25k, auto (tiptronic), 3 previous owners, machine grey (only available 06 onwards).

as has been mentioned on here depending on your view about mileage there are more than enough for sale BUT as with all cars (IMO) always go for the best you can afford it should avoid heartache later on.

Again thanks guys, I think I need to give the manual a try but most likely will go for the automatic.
What I really meant about the automatic box was is here different types of boxes for the crossfire? Automatic / semi automatics or are they all the same ?

To +fireams: YouTube - aston project (hyundai coupe)
That's my old coupe ( Hyundai)

Thank you

There is only one type of automatic, and it's a pretty good one.
Your Hyundai looked really nice.
I always liked the look of those cars, especially the last year they made them.

The manual (well, my manual at least) is fine in all but sixth gear which will grind unless you take particular care to ram it in at precisely the right angle. Drives me potty as I never, never ground the gears of any car previous. I just use 1-5 for normal driving and leave 6th for motorway trawls.

I don't know if you're used to automatics, but from my own personal experience of recently trying one they are lovely for wafting and infuriating when actually 'driving'. Having a tiptronic only makes it worse because the car will inevitably take over just when you think you’re in control...

Still, there are more autos to choose from so if that's your game then you'll have lots of sport to hunt.

Whatever you choose, you will have fun with the car....she will understeer a bit, but, manual or auto/shift, you will have fun. They are closer to finding ways to tune the shifting of the auto to more like manual all the time. Both, Eurocharged and Speedriven have programs for the tuning of the auto tranny. Some have some bugs with it, but they will get it figured out soon... But, either way, the cars are really fun to drive...and they will turn heads even though they are becoming 8 year old technology...

So finally made the jump and got the car last Tuesday , Blazing red, 2004 ( but registered in 2005), coupe, 40k miles , sat nav ( useless/ no actual screen) automatic.
few niggles, paint scuffs here n there but not obvious, 2 small patches of rust on the boot lid ( common I believe) and only got passenger top/ back of the heated seat working ( again another common issue)
Asking price was 5k but got it down to 4.5k
An absolute gem to drive !!!! Yes steering is a bit vague n not as precise as my Hyundai coupe v6 but OMG performance wise I was baffled !!!! And exhaust note / engine growl haaaaaaaarrrrrgggg absolutely love it !

So now all I need to know is :
- what needs doing ( service wise) every year ? What mileage/year big service has to be done ( belts/chain, sparks...)
- is there any way to reduce the lag on the acceleration ?
- silly one : any way to have spoiler completely down in one push of a button instead of having to hold button down ( I know I'm being picky now lol)
- if I was to replace the exhaust with a more sporty one would u recommend any good one ?

Thanks

A proud owner ))))))))) aka Seb

hi seb glad your liking your new toy......service wise i would just change the oil every 6000 miles and carry out the normal checks,to be honest i get mine serviced at the main dealer, no cambelt got a chain, plugs are supposed to be good for 100,000 miles but as mine has only 17000 dont know about that, the slight throttle delay can be fixed by fitting a sprint booster, just search ebay about £185, I leave the spoiler in the automatic mode to go up and down depending on speed so dont use the switch, and i think magnaflow do a rear box for the crossfire.....enjoy....chris

Hi Darkseb 88..Welcome to the Crossfire fold. The buzz you get when driving you're xfire will last, mine has for many years.

Try and attend one of the future meets, perhaps Castle Combe, 30th June. Us xfire owners owners are a friendly bunch, and will have all the info you require. and more.

Ken.

Cheers guys for a very warm welcome unfortunately castle Combe might be a bit of a trek plus week ends don't suit me as I work in catering and those r our busiest times ( specially in June !!!!) if any meet pops up in Essex I will indeed attend

On a side note went to Thorpe park today with my mate ( 250miles journey there n back ) and as it was my first "long haul" with my xfire I experimented a bit and the following are my first impressions
- xfire is a good match to a xkr jag / rx7 Mazda on the M25 :P ( good ol' kick switch !)
- rain + roundabout + foot down = Tokyo drift !!!! Learnt my lesson there lol
- play with the kick switch a bit too much and u soon find yourself looking for the nearest petrol station !
- don't open the windows at high speed or u lose your eardrum !
- where does my coke bottle fit it this car ???? Seriously missing my old car just for the cup holders lol
- check speedo very often as exemplary stability and very effective suspension make u feel like you're driving at 60mph but in fact you are already doing 90mph !!!
----------> LOVE MY CROSSFIRE

Seb

Pretty sure everyone here has seen a red xfire, plus, at the moment it's still bog standard . When I start messing about with it ( exhaust, resprays, angel lights, alloys, diffusers ....) then I ll get the camera out
To be perfectly honest I love everything about this car so cosmetic wise not gonna do a lot.
