FAB Cruiser here from the UK Cruisers (organiser of the Ace Cafe meets that you are invited to regularly).

I'm thinking of buying a Crossfire to live alongside my beloved PTs and 50's classics.

I'm thinking low mileage, just pre road tax hike (or is that a false economy?), hardtop, Auto. I don't mind paying a bit over the odds for a dealer warranty, although I notice Chrysler dealers no longer list Crossfires officially.

Anything in particular I should look out for?

Is there a major service item I need to be aware of (for example, on the PT, when the timing belt is due, you're in for nearly £1K).

All advice appreciated (apart from "sell the PT's" after all, they're 'marmite cars' just like the Crossfire )

hi david hope your keeping well...mechanically with regular oil changes they are pretty bombproof (no timing belt ) some earlier ones can be prone to a bit of rust in the area of the tailgate catch and the bottom of the doors where the weather strip sits, mechanical parts are easy to come by as they are all MB, tax on the post march 06 is steep at £460, check the heated seats still work, tyres can be pricey, had mine almost 3 years now and still enjoy driving it, not too bad on petrol for a 3.2 litre mid to high 20`s depending how heavy your right foot is.....best of luck mate there are some bargains out there....chris

yes the 06s are £460 road rent - but it's only £200 more than the earlier models so not really a big issue TBH. Other than that I'd say do it!! Obviously if you want to have a great condition machine grey, auto coupe with working heated seats and you live near to Essex give me a shout as I'll honestly be surprised if you find one nicer (though I don;t doubt that others on here will have ones AS nice )

Well things went a bit quiet with our hunt for a Crossfire, but I've just renewed my PT Cruiser insurance and gone 'limited mileage', which means I now have a full NCB to transfer onto a Crossfire

My wife Kathy is being very particular with her requirement which is "a very clean low mileage Aero Blue coupe". We'd consider a manual or auto box. I don't mind paying a dealer premium if it comes with a Warranty. Otherwise if Private, I'd be looking for a FSH including recent service and MOT. In terms of the year, I'd prefer 05 /06 (pre tax hike) but the quality of the car is the main thing.

Please let me know if you find a car that comes close to fitting our bill?

Only advice I would give is don't buy a manual, they are not the best boxes in the world.
where are you located? are you willing to travel? If you spot anything here in the Southeast and you would like me to have a first look, I would be more than happy to.

Thanks for the advice and offer to view if in your area. Ideally it would be in the South East as I split my time between Denham Bucks and Poole.

I've spotted one on Trader up in Peterborough (Vanquish Autos) that seems to fit the bill but it has a Manual box. I'd heard the auto is slightly more fuel efficient but didn't realise there were particular problems with the manual?

I have a manual and am not aware of any problems. The shift can be a little "notchy" from first to second when cold, but otherwise it's great fun. The auto apparently is a little more fuel efficient, but not drastically. It shouldn't be enough to be a deal breaker, and the overall purchase price may be a little less for the manual.

Sounds good but the wife won't compromise on the colour - she wants the Aero Blue. Personally, I'd go for the red to match my Inferno Red PT

Aero Blue, then an SRT6 will fit the bill, why go half way?
No need to save for go fast mods, you have them already.
