Default Mission Impossible?

With your help maybe not :-)

Anyways i better start by saying a big hello to you all,

I've just joined today but have been reading the forums for a few weeks now,
im looking for a crossfire and managed to find one local to me so i could take the wife to see what all the fuss i was making was about
( been on to her for ages about getting one.......all i got was "where you getting the money from to buy this,,,,,,,,unknown to her i have saved about 4.5/5k which shall we say was a bit tricky to admit to, and i got a few questions asked how i had done it :-)
anyway took the wife to see it and she fell in love with it as i did,
but it was out of my price range, so after going to see a few very tired looking cars i was wondering if any of you have seen any decent ones around for my price range? i live in Shropshire and don't mind traveling to look for cars but I've not had much look as yet, not really got the conference to buy private so will probably have to be from a dealer, so far i have found most of them very rude,

posted this on my phone so not sure how it looks :-)

oh i forgot i don't really mind color red black silver i like most of them, one thing id like to ask is are the automatics a good choice?

anyways if you read it this far thank you,

Hi UK Whitty and welcome to the forum

your buget should get you a nice example, plenty out there and as you are willing to travel for the right car you should have no trouble.

If you find one a long distance from you, ask on here if there is someone local to the car willing to go take a look for you, many on here will

I am in the Southeast and will be glad to take a look at a car for you in my area

Good luck with your search!

Hi and welcome.

I dont mind looking at any in my area (Notts/Derby's) for you if you see any.
Infact I checked one out last week for UK Ken who lives on the south coast.
What year and mileage are you looking for?

Russ

Personaly I wouldn't want to pay more than 4 grand for either of them. I got an 06 plate 33k miles coupe for ukPete a couple of months ago and only paid £4,800 for it

Dont rush into buying there are bargains to be had out there

Best of luck in your search Whitty.

I agree...hang on for the right car at the right price if you can. You'll get loads of help from this excellent forum as I have. I was in your position a couple of months ago looking around for a good Xfire and with Mo's (and others) help found a corker for not much money.

Cheers,

Pete.

Hi And welcome to the Forum, just to add to what the others have said watch out for the tax break so if you get one that is newer than March 06 it will be £460 per year just for road tax & you can bet that this will be the group the gov will allways hammer every budget just so they can see to be green.
Good luck with your search they are great cars Im sure you will be pleased if you get the right one
And yes Auto's are the best choice, you have to be a real die-hard manual lover to disagree with this and it's not helped that the crossfires manual box or clutch for that matter feels like its out of a vito van not the sportscar that it is.

oh i forgot i don't really mind color red black silver i like most of them, one thing id like to ask is are the automatics a good choice?

I could take a look at the one in Perth by extending one of my regular trips to Edinburgh a little, but not for the next 10 days or so - it's 150 miles from me and I'm in Scotland! Looks like a good car, though - could well be a likely candidate for you.

Looks good and the dealer WILL take 4K for it, rather than let you walk away! Check service history and number of owner before viewing. No warranty..you pay if you want one!

Do check private sellers...some good deals to be had. Remember, lots out there, so dont rush...its a buyers market.

Like you, I'm still looking for the right Coupe.

UKKen.

Thanks for the offer Crosscats that's very nice of you,

I've just looked at a very nice car its a 2004 gray crossfire i must admit its hard to fault it the owner as had it 7 years and he works at a merc garage so its been looked after,
Its a automatic but this is the only thing that's bothering me a tiny bit the mileage is 78000,

Have any of you got an opinion on what sort of mileage do these engines do before there getting troublesome?

Time spent learning from the many experienced owners on this forum (much more knowledgeable than me) will tell you what to expect but, generally, big miles are not a problem with proper servicing. Merc mechanicals are ususally excellent and
having had ready access to Merc. servicing, this other one sounds promising.

If you are considering a XF as a long-term prospect, lower miles obviously give a better 'feel-good' factor 'cos it should be longer before you need more serious work done - but a well cared for high miler is often still better than an abused low miler, so history is always key.
High miles also give you a bit more bargaining power, so if it looks good, that need not put you off nor, as UKKen says, should private sellers, especially with HPI and VOSA checks available - plus your forum buddies...
Good luck, don't rush and keep asking questions - the one thing XF owners like doing next to driving (and tinkering & modding & fixing) is talking about XFs!
