Potential New Owner...
Looking for some info from some crossfire owners!
Spent the last couple of weeks deciding what my next car should be, ended up cutting it down to 3 cars - the crossfire is at the top of my list.
Theres some kinda good info, but its best to hear from actual owners you know?
Got a few questions if you dont mind
Currently I own an MG TF, which is nice and I love her but am looking for something that is a bit less reliant on maintenance and something a tad more reliable. Are these cars reliable? Thats a tough question to answer I know as it changes depending on car by car, but whats your experiances?
If work does need to be done, how easy can it be done? I like to mess around with my cars, replaced the full interior, exhaust and shocks on my TF amoungst other things, is the crossfire one of those cars where its impossible to work on due to needing specialist (i.e dealership only) tools or is it ok? What are space constraints like?
How easy can it be modified? They look nice but how do they sound? Are there aftermarket products or is it a case of 'Driving through Ripspeed'?

IIRC there is a listing of 'common' problems on the XF on the 'main' part of the site - but off the top of my head:
heated seats fail
the driver's side bolster does wear
crank-shaft sensor causes some issues

Most of the issues (servicing etc) can be done by someone semi-competent with a spanner (unfortunately I'm not one of those, fortunately for the car to be fair!! lol). The cabin itself is cosy rather than tight and the boot is surprisingly big (can fit a front and rear wheel, both with tyres - try doing that in a TF!!!)

Ahhh this is an issue, there are some mods you can do but it's not the easiest. I pulled off the standard silencer on mine and ran about without one at all for a while but that did get a little much so I put in a small silencer until earlier this year when I re-fitted the factory silencer (SWMBO was quite happy with this
), changed the radio but that's it for me. Some of the chaps on here have gone crazy and fitted an AMG V8 (very hard work!) and a company calls 'needs wings' do (or used to) supply some 'go faster bits n bobs, other than that you can obviously also get new alloys.

Welcome to crossfire uk.
I too came from a mgtf to a crossfire and have had it for over a year with no problems.
After a week of owning it I went on a round trip of 1200 miles and it never missed a beat.
Fuel consumption improved on that journey from a average of 27mpg to 34mpg.
A couple of things to look for if you decide on a purchase is foggy scratched headlights and having both keys. Spares are not bad but a bit pricey.
Big engine with alot more room to work on than a MGTF. (I had the scraped knuckles to prove)
I would invite you to have a look around/go in mine but Cumbria might be a bit to far away for you.
