Default oil

I've just had an oil change and they have used 5w 30 not 0w 40, any thoughts if this is ok?

As long as it uses the Mercedes specs in the oil. Some 5w40's do not sure about 5w30's.

Check with whoever did the oil change, and find out exactly what brand of oil they used and type of filter (paper or fleece.. fleece is recommended). Was it Synthetic or regular oil? And like Larry said the oil should be labeled to meet Mercedes specification (229.5). Then let us know. Some synthetics might be ok, but mobil1 would be brand of choice. The reason is that our engines are engineered to use particular oil lubrication determined by Mercedes to be used. Depending on your average climate temps, you might be OK.
IMHO if you had the oil change done at one of the quick in, quick out places, for $26.95, I'd be concerned. This is why many of us do our own oil changes, or bring Mobil1 0-40 and a Mann fleece filter to the mechanic.

As you can see from the list, some 5-30w oils are approved. I prefer 0-40w or 5-40w myself, (synthetic) result of the high revving WOT life mine leads in my hands. The paper filter isn't as good as the fleece but as long as you don't extend the change interval it's "good enough". The fleece should be used for extended oil change intervals. Being a Crossfire for life man, I use the fleece filter and change my oil twice a year no matter what, have it analyzed, yada yada ya, etc. IMO, even if they used the worst oil on the market, you "should" be OK for 3000 miles. I'm old enough to have used non detergent oil and the cheapest filters available in cars and they lasted over 100,000 miles. Now that your nerves are settled, be smart and use the best you can afford. Mobil 1 0-40w has been proven to be one of the best weights made by Mobil, well, from what I've read and seen from my Blackstone reports. We all want to use the best at all times unless the expense is unreasonable. Over the years I've learned some things and one of them is to trust the engineers of the car you have. They didn't read other peoples opinions on some forum. They tested, tested and tested to come up with recommendations and know more than we'll ever know.

Thank you for your replies.
It wasn't a cheap garage that I went to and I thought it was pricey coming out at around 150 euros for oil and filter.
They used motul 8100 x-clean 5w-30 mb approval 229.51
