Default Rear Brake Pads

If I renew the brake pads, will this shorten the brake pedal travel?
The last two years MOT's have mentioned the brake pads were getting low and were an advisory on the test. I have the pads ready to fit but wondered whether it would make a differnce to the pedal. Or is it normal to have a relatiely long pedal travel on these cars, compared to other cars I hae driven?
Just interested to know as I will be fitting the new pads anyway!

Go with ceramic pads, for less brake dust on your wheels. new pads will not change your pedal travel. Bleeding the brakes on all four wheels and replacing with new brake fluid should help and new brake hoses if they've never been replaced
Stoptech braided stainless steel brake lines: front 950.35001 rear 950.35500 the old rubber brake hoses will expand as you press the brake peddle and are probably as old as the car

I already have the pads. I've alays found Borg & Beck to be ok, no idea what they are made of?? Also waiting for some copperslip to be delivered. Hopefully will get away with the locating pins that are in.

Just changed my rear pads a few months ago, dead easy. Just ensure you give everything a good clean with a can of brake cleaner spray.

Made a bit of a boo boo!

Changed the pads on one side then looked in the bottom of the box of new pads and realised the back metal shims were seperate in a plastic bag! Added the shims to the second side. Wondered what is the purpose of the metal shims and whether I need to redo the first set of pads and add them?
