Meet in Southern California?
Palm Spring gets my vote. My girlfriend's people are out there so we make regular trips. Nice place, lots of open roads and endless places to eat and drink. Damn pretty too. If you find a more scenic route than Hwy. 10, let me know.

From San Diego, we usually take the 15 N to the 79 E in Temecula, to the 371 and on to the 74 down into Palm Desert. However, if you and / or others are game, it would be fun to meet in SJC (maybe at the Mission?) and do the run across the 74 together.
Mr. Max - you might consider cutting south in Banning up the 243 "Banning to Idyllwild Panoramic Highway", which looks like an outstanding ride, merge with the 74 south of Idyllwild, and go east into Palm Desert.
I would make a great weekend trip!

I've driven Ortega HWY numerous times - heck, I live about 5 minutes from Ortega & Antonio! But after Elsinore I never had reason to venture further inland and would usually end up on the 15 headed for San Diego, or if it was just for a fun drive I'd turn around and head back home.
I'll have to check a map but your description beyond that sounds much, much more enjoyable than just cruise controlling the 10 out to Palm Springs!

Cruise to Palm Srpings? I'd be it!
It was enjoyable driving the Freeway on a previous cruise: Mike, Brent, and I taking up 3 lanes.... felt like the freeway belonged to the Crossfire

I was using Palm Springs as more of an example than an actual destination. We could do Idyllwild or Borrego instead. I'll ask my Corvette friend for recommendations/ideas since his Corvette crowd has done a number of desert runs.
At any rate the thought of using San Juan Capistrano as a common meeting point sounds great.
And did everyone vote?

Any of those destinations would be fine with me.
Absolutely.

My friend is going to get recommendations from his Corvette crowd for a good desert destination. Right now I'd say Idlewyld or something like that, Borrego or Palm Springs. There is really nothing out at Borrego other than the airport, there was a good restaurant at the airport but I'll have to check to see if it is still opened. Palm Springs is a ways to go but there is a museum or two to see is we want to do something different. Will have to check to see is they are opened on the weekends though. I have no idea what is out Idlewhatever way.
Does anyone have any preference for Sat or Sun? I can do either.

Us San Diego types are planning to gather locally and caravan to San Juan Capistrano to meet up with owners from the LA area. The current suggested meeting place is Montgomery Field since at least three of us know where it is.
If you have suggestions for an east county destination please share them. The desert is getting hot now so cooler alternatives are welcomed.
Ok, I'll schedule, take roll and coordinate as needed. Cut and paste the below and fill in as appropriate. Feel free to add a section if necessary. PM me any contact info you're willing to share so I can be in touch if necessary. I'll send you my contact info via return PM (not hiding - just don't want to give it to the SPAM harvesters).

Over the last two weeks we have gotten so busy at work that I'm now working Saturdays, so right now I'm voting for:
Sunday June 21
and
Sunday June 28
Prefer the 21st but since plans are moving so slow the 28th is more prudent.
So......since late June in the desert is rather warm, shall we forego Palm Springs until later in the year and instead shoot for Idyllwild? Anybody have other suggestions?
Do we have a volunteer to organize a meeting point for the LA crowd?
Can someone recommend a meeting place in San Juan Capistano?
I'll take the lead here to propose a tentative plan:
Meet at Montgomery around 8, depart for SJC around 8:30.
Arrive at SJC by 10 and meet up with the hillbillys from the LA area.
Socialize for an hour or so then head out to Idyllwild. No idea how long this will take but we should arrive within three hours.
Have lunch in Idyllwild (note to self: do internet search for places to eat there) and then breakup and head for home.
In the meantime I really need to get new rear tires and a nail pulled from one of my front tires. Procrastination at it's best.
