Default Tail Light Tint

Anyone know a good place to get my tail lights professionally sprayed black?

I'm looking to get them sprayed dark (not necessarily tinted) and then sprayed with clearcoat for a glossy finish.

I'm in the OC area.

Thanks,
Eric Henderson

Send them away to Jon's Tinted Tails. I had him do the tails on my Stratus Coupe. Took about 2 weeks (shipped out/completed/shipped back to me).

Top notch work. You end up with a glass like finish.

I just looked at the website...

Did you go medium, medium/dark, or dark? Or any of them?

I want mine as dark as possible but I still want the lights to shine through during the day.

Thanks,
Eric

I went with medium. Didn't want to be hassled by the cops and never was. The light visibility was still pretty good. If you go dark, you could have problems.

My car:

Tom,

Looks great! I have a Graphite Metallic SRT and wanted to get a tint similar to yours. Any idea what % shade that is? If I get it done locally I want to know... might even go a little lighter.

Also, nice car. I have a 2002 Stratus Sedan but I always loved the look of the coupes of the same generation. Mine's going strong at 135k miles... daily driver.

That tint was 20%. You could go 30 or 35 to be safe.

I did mine on my srt-4 with tint in a spray can. they came out dark like I wanted them to look but it made the light dim.

I later did the side markers with black paint and like 2 light coats, this made the light come through much better and still looked super dark. From that, I'd say black gloss paint is the better way to go. Name: DSC_0002.jpg

Also if you want to put them back to stock all you have to do is sand it off then use rubbing compound and seal them with clear and they will look brand new again. I did this when I put it up for sale.

You might want to mask off the reverse area of the light then clear coat the light when your done leaving it clear. Mine were almost useless between the tint on my window's and tint on the light housing.

Wow, what a great response.

Thanks for all of the information. I really want to spray my tail lights instead of tinting them because I think it looks a lot better.. but I was always worried about how to change them back to stock without having to buy a whole new set (~$450?).

I have a friend that sanded their tail lights with 2000 grit wet sand paper and then washed the lenses beforehand, is this the kind of prep you did?

Also, what kind of rubbing compound did you use to get the paint off?

Thanks,
Eric Henderson

Yes just use gloss black paint and gloss clear paint to do the job. When you want to remove it just sand it off using course / med / light wet sanding paper then finish with a rubbing compound from the local auto parts store. I used 3M compound then gloss clear painted them. Good luck and go easy with the black paint.
