Default Anyone using "run flats"

I have toyed with the idea of using run flat tires on my Crossfire. I hate the idea of taking a nice road trip and the possibility of a tire malfunction leaving me stranded fiddling with the supplied tire goop. I have heard the stories of run flats having rough rides and handling compromise. I guess the price is no joke either. I have driven Corvettes with them and I did not find them that bad.

What ya think?

chrysler experimented with run-flats on the crossfire. the ride was too harsh.

the best thing you can do to keep your crossfire going if you get a flat is to buy a tire repair kit for around $8 (plug tool(s), vulcanized rubber plugs, and rubber cement). then you can just use your compressor to reinflate the tire and drive on. the bottle of tire sealant will only seal very small holes and not nearly as well as a plug. it may also damage your tire pressure sensors and tire valves. not to mention a new bottle will cost around $60. keep a pair of inexpensive needle nosed pliers in your car as well to remove nails/screws in the tread of your tire if you need to perform a repair.

Is the x-fire supposed to have a separate compressor?
Or is the bottle of sealant both in one?

It comes with a compressor AND a bottle of sealant.

Really? What size and brand? How is the ride? I have not been able to find run flats that fit the 18" and 19".

2005 SRT-6
Michlin Pilot Sport PS2

Front 225/40zr/18
Rear 255/35zr/19
i think they run over 200.00 each... to me it is responsive , it should be
the ride you will fill bumps due to no sidewall , i like a tight ride not a floaty feel

The only runflat PS2's (PS2 ZP for zero pressure) I see on tirerack are 225/40R18 and 255/35R18...apparently designed for some BMW

are you sure what you have is a PS2 runflat? where did you get them?

PS2''s are not considered run-flats. The PAX system are the Michelin run-flats.

I knew someone must like them, but I've never had tires I hated more. The Vette community calls them "run craps", which always seemed to be fairly accurate IMO especially when it comes to performance. Ever tried drag racing on a run flat ... Granted, not a huge concern in the Crossfire world.

looked on the tires they say extra load 96y or 96y and the x radial
and size , they were on the car when i purchased it.
from what i understood from the dealer and other srt-6 member's they have run flat's .. they have a thick bead on the lip next to the rim .. well hell far maybe they dont

called Michelin - rep states the tire would RF by the number 19 or 18
ok so i guess i don't have them no RF .. WTFudge

For what it's worth the dealer told me the conti's are run flats. Turns out he didn't know what he was taking about.

ok called PAX system , the rep told me the tires i have are listed as
self supporting - zero pressure and can go 50 @ 55 mph miles on a flat.
and the run flat will go 125 miles @ 55 mph ..

ok so these tires have a thicker sidewall to support low pressure hum not run flat

good post , to do a reality check , never know till u ask

I think there are alot of owners (Xfires and other) who have been told or are otherwise under the impression they have run flats when, in reality, they don't. Run flats are very expensive, very specific tires that have not been well received by the buying public and as long as good passenger tires are less than $100/each - it will likley not change (granted our tires are a lot more than that). They're simply a tough, hard riding, sell right now.
