Yep, we're always afraid of what we don't know, or haven't done. If I had someone with me that knew what they were doing looking over my shoulder, I would install the brakes my self.

Can anyone help. I had my rotex pads fitting by the dealer a couple of months ago but I am hearing a sound from my drives side rear wheel. I sounds like something is rubbing against metal. I have not taken it back cos I did not pay for them to be fitted when I was supposed to (long story) and don't what to go back and get told I should of paid.

I don't know why you didn't pay, but if you were suppose to pay, I would suggest you do. That way you have the right to complain and get it fixed. Plus, it's the right thing to do.

My Chrysler dealer moved to our Ford dealer. The chrysler service rep said it would be £104 to have the pads fitted which I accepted. I took the car in on a Friday morning and picked in up on a Saturday morning but the Chrysler service dept was closed so Ford service gave my car back and I said how much but they said there's no mention of payment on the paperwork so I hurried out with my keys. Did I mention when I needed new front tires I was told by
the same Chrysler dept that they were in stock. I turn up on a Saturday hand my keys over wait 30 minutes then get told there are no tires in stock. THEY SCREW ME, I SCREW THEM.

Sounds like they might be returning the favor.

Installed my Rotex Gold Brake pads today (front only). Very easy to do. Had both sets on in about 1 hour, this included cleaning the front wheels on both sides before reinstalling them. Looking forward to dust free wheels. I sure was tired of cleaning them every couple of days.

What do you guys think it's fair price to pay to get my Rotex Gold pads installed by a shop?

Man, I hate that you live far away. Hey, Chicago is great this time of the year.

FP, it really is not that hard to do. Probably the hardest part is putting the spring clip back on.

Yeah, but I've never done disc brakes. It's fear of the unknown. And if I get stuck, I have no one to turn to for mechanical advice. I rather just pay the $100 and get them done, or provide that very special, very very cold beer for a friend.

OK you got me started. I'm ordering the pads today and have checked with 2 installers. The convenient service guy next door who does my oil changes and inspections while I'm here at work, said under $90 (it'll be $90). No mention of anything else. My regular Chrysler Jeep dealer that treat me great and are usually quite good (although they've never had to do more than change the oil on my XF) said they would install pads I bring in (to my surprise) but naturally would not warranty anything. I said well neither will the service guy next door and he agreed. When I asked price he said, well about $95 to install the pads and about ... to cut the rotors, I said woe, slow down, why do the rotors need to be cut they've only got 5,000 miles. To which he said, oh they've got a glaze and will squeak if not cut. If you don't want to cut the rotors than we'll just install the pads for like $95 but won't be responsible if the brakes squeak (is that spelling right, I'm having a brain fart). So what's the verdict? Do I worry for a minute about warranties, cutting rotors or brake squeaks or do I just buy em and get installed by the local guy?

FP, If you want, I could talk you through it over the phone. It really is very simple.

I wouldn't worry too much about warranty, pads are not covered under the Chrysler warranty anyway unless there is a problem with the caliper or rotor. I only have 2,200 miles on my Crossfire, but so far I have no squeaking problem and they feel fine.

I had ~ 4,000 miles on mine before I put the Rotex Golds on.
It squeaked for maybe 50 miles and then stopped.

Hey FP - You Can Do EEET!

EEET? I probably should know what it stands for, but at the moment I don't.

I know I'm going to feel very stupid once you tell me.

FP - ever seen 'The Waterboy' w/Adam Sandler?
In it, Rob Schneider plays a fan from the deep south who always screams -
'You can do it!' However, the 'it' spelled how it is pronounced would be 'eeet.'
