That's much better!
I just like mine a little bigger!

Sorry, I don't have a spring mount to put it next to!

Not in a while. Mostly just indoor target ranges. Few of us boys from work are going tomorrow at lunch time and I was just gettin' ready.

That's OK, I can do the math. That's a nice piece. I have my eye out for two "gotta have" pieces.

I think I just added one more to the list.

I had the left front apart last Friday when I discovered that none of the spring compressors at the hobby shop would fit into the wheel well or around the spring. (They had four) one was a big monster that compressed from the sides, the others worked from the center.

I purchased these from Harbor Freight tools yesterday so I plan on doing the job this weekend. (I can do it at home now).

http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/cta...temnumber=3980

I wanted to go to the Anaheim GTG last Sat. So I figured I just would wait.

I will post pictures and calculate the drop that the 5mm spring pads provide once I know the thickness of the stock pads.

I would like to drop 1" in the front and 2" in the back.

Without knowing the stock pad thickness I estimate 1/4 to 1/2 coil trim for the fronts and 1/2 for the back. I don't think I will cut more then 1/2 from any springs. But the rears are easy to remove and sit so high, if I feel bold I might trim more. I'll have to wait and see.

Hey Brian,

Where abouts did you get those pads? I was at a dealership and was trying to order some (due to their short strike they wouldn't let me) and noticed that there was only 1 part number. Did you get them from Mercedes?

Yes, I purchased the pads from the local MB dealer. Different parts numbers for the front and back spring pads and different numbers for MB and Chrysler.

I went to the Chrysler dealer parts dept and they said 3-4 weeks for delivery, I went to the MB dealer next door - had them the following Monday. Less then $25 for all four pads.

If you need the part numbers I can get them for you once I get home from work. Just let me know.

Cool, thanks for the tip. I got the part numbers off of a Benzworld post, thanks though!

Just to help anybody out the Chrysler part number for the 5 mm (shortest) rear spacers are 05102308AA. $4.40 each from my local dealer and took a week. I put Eibachs on a few weeks ago. The front came down just right in my opinion but the rear needed more.

Thanks for the great write up. I used an Eibach Pro-Kit. Got the rear done tonight.
I ran into an issue that was a major p.i.t.a.
The roadster has extra bracing that negates the rear a-arm from lowering all of the way and letting the spring out.
The bracing takes a T45 or T50 (can't remember) star bit to get off. I didn't have the correct star bit, but luckily my neighbor dug around and found one. Plus they used loctite on the bolts. Had to use a breaker bar and then an impact wrench to get them off.

Hope to get the front finished tomorrow.

Make sure if you lower your Xfire you also must trim the bumpers in the top of the shocks ! Otherwise you feel like your xfire is bottoming out the shock ! Also your Xfire will ride better !

Will do. May be a few days though.

Done.

Let me just say that IMO, this job is a HUGE P.I.T.A.
Took me ~5 hours to do the fronts and ~5 hours to do the rears. That is with getting all the tools out, jack stands, wiping all pieces off, wiping off all parts of the undercarriage that I had access to.
I do take my time, double check all fits, etc. I'm almost as **** as andrew - .
The look is sweet so far. I'll try to post some pics within a few days.

Was it more of a PITA because of the extra braces for the roadster - or a PITA regardless?

You will need the spring compressor for the front springs only to do the job safely. I installed the Eibach Pro Kit and the ride is much smoother. I've also installed the Koni adjustable dampers. The ride and height is tight and just right.

Depends on how you install the fronts. If you drop the a-arm, no compressor needed.
