When to change tps sensors
Just found out the tire sensors have batteries. Question is, how long are the batteries good for? I will be changing tires next week (on a 2005) do I need to replace them then? Also, I am getting the tires from Costco, and I'm going out on a limb and bet they can't program the new sensors-right???
No, you will not need to replace the TPMS units.
Most tire places will tell you that you need a 'rebuild' on the TPMS - about $8 per wheel - it's just rubber washers/gaskets - do a search, it's been discussed.
The TPMS units do not need programming.
From memory, the TPMS units may need to go back on the original wheels as they are coded for want of a better term and I think they may be readable by the OBDII tools - I think this has been discussed before too.

I think they have to stay on the same corner of the car. But I've been wrong before-just ask around!
I know that NEW TPMS need to be programmed, The main questioned is how long do the batteries last? Mine are already 3 years old and if they are close to crapping out, tire changing time would be the time to change them.
I remember reading somewhere that the batteries are supposed to last around 5 years........after that, you have to replace the sensors since the batteries are not replaceable (of course).
