Default Dare we trust the Continental again

I'm not in dire need of tires just yet and suspect I can get through most of this year without needing new ones, but I like to be prepared so I started looking at Tire Rack and found they rate the Continental Extreme Contact DWS as better than the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus and cheaper even after the $70 rebate for Michelin's. Any thoughts?

Comparison Chart

Continental
ExtremeContact DWS

Michelin
Pilot Sport A/S Plus

I find the ratings posted on TR very reliable. You do pay a premium for Mich's. Also keep in mind the weight of the tire.

It may not be the best performance tire, but darned if it ain't an amazing tire otherwise!!

Tread rating = LOTS-O-MILES....

And the customer ratings rock. I may have found my next tire. I certainly don't have any traction issues with the Limited, LOL...

Sorry, but I'd rather have my sister in a whorehouse than Conti's on my car. I really didn't like the OEM's.

Just my opinion, but there you are.

The stock continentals don't even appear to be in the same class as the ones listed in original post...

Continental ContiTouringContact CW95

Even the customer ratings suck, which echoes the sentiments of Max and James.

Apparently, the DWS is a whole 'nother animal. Think it's possible?

From what I've heard, they are excellent tires, they will be the ones I put on next fall, the DWS that is. My Cinti tracs are fine, I really didn't have much issue with them last year, and I have the conti's on mt Tribute SUV now, and I'm happy with them. The DWS's are mileage rated for 50, and good overall ratings and relatively inexpensive. For A/S tires I think these are the ones to go with.

Just bought a set of these Hankook Ventus V12 evo K110 but upsized the rears to 285/35/19
Mounting them next week - All four with TPMS rebuild kits for $795 with lifetime balancing at Discount Tire
(They mathched Tirereack)

I got the Continentals now but never really cared for them
Originallly had the Michelin PS2's and loved them

I'm running the summer Michelin Pilot Sports on mine (like option #2 in the original post) and they were NOT fun in the snow and ice.

My car is a daily, so I have come to accept the fact that sacrificing .05 lateral cornering G's is not the end of the world, if it means staying ON the road altogether between November and March.

Just keepin' it real, folks... haha.

Besides, even though I don't have the SRT, I still have WAAAY too much traffic and WAAAAY too little open road to wring out the performance of even the lowly N/A motor... So I know I'd REALLY be frustrated in the SRT.

Murfreesboro traffic is absolutely maddening anytime between 4 and 9pm (when I'm off work, LOL).

I'm gonna give these a shot when my Michelins die. Won't be too much longer...

You have these same Conti's or the stock ones? I know the stock one's were POS' that didn't even last 20k before I had to replace them. I'm just glad I did prior to the spring dragon last year.

John, I am going to have to keep it real and say anyone who wanted to get the most from their car, and still has to drive it in any real winter weather needs 2 sets of tires - period.

20s for the sun OEM size blizzaks for the snow

we don't have the kind of weather for Blizzaks otherwise I'd have a set on my SRT. John just wait until it warms up, you will absolutely love the michelins. That's the only tire I've ever had, but I've driven the Conti's and they were so bad I chock them up to the reason the car failed...

Well I agree with this... Well about having diffrerent tires at least. I have my summer tires Hankook Ventus V12 Evo K110 on during the summer, then during winter I have stock wheels with contis on the front (225/40/18) and blizzak lm-25's on the rear (265/35/19). I just replaced the original contis from the SRT at almost 30k miles. I put on the original contis from my N/A (wrecked 4/09) that have 11k on them...and a lot of tread. I expect them to last another 15k miles at least. I am a big fan of the Hankooks but I will not be running summer tires on the front until I move somewhere that sees less than an inch of snow a year. Otherwise I'm a big fan of the Hankooks, very good tire with good wear, and pretty good traction.
