Default Brake replacement

My car is jacked up with the tire off waiting to get its brake pads replaced. My problem is that it doesn't seem to take 7 mm allen wrench, its too small and 8mm is too big

Do you have an SRT-6? If so, you need a T45 torx instead of the 7MM hex.

I have not seen any Allen head screws on my car, they are all Torx. These are cheap enough though and easy to obtain at auto supply shops.

I would get your self a set of torx bits, and a set of inverted torx sockets for this car. DO NOT use an allen wrench, or anything that is close cause it can round it out or strip it. It is much better to have the right tool to do the job correct and not to damage the attaching hardware. You can get these tools just about anywhere and at resonable prices.

Don't have time to hunt it down at the moment but if you search for TORX I know there is a thread with a good list of packs to buy that pretty much cover it all. I just ran to Sears and grabbed a few packs\styles (cant remember all of what i got but it was prob in 80-100$ range) and got pretty much every size other than the HUUUUGE ones.

Do you have to compress the brake pad with a clamp to get it back on? I have both pads on the driver side on but I can't get the caliper back on. For the record these are Posi quiet ceramic brake pads

Kagen, I used some wood shims against the piston, and then used a large screwdriver to leverage against the shims to compress the pistons back. I did this with the pads out.

I use the old pad, or a piece of wood, and a C clamp to slowly compress the cylinder back in...
