235/40-18 is 9.3 tread on the ground and 25.4 tall and will work on front with the stock rim 235/45-18 is also 9.3
255/40-18 is 10" of tread on the ground and is 26 tall maybe this will help

Thank you but front 18s are 7.5s and most 235s want an 8" rim. Am now thinking 225/45r18. 4" sidewall and almost exactly 26" tall. Is a 26" diameter ok in front ?

If 26" is too much in front then 215/45r18 looks like the answer for softest ride. What is the diameter limit in front please ? Have to remember the coupe is only 3100 lbs. Suspect would be better on 17s or 16s but need to go with what wheelz are here.

Buy two used 26" tall put them on the car, if they do not rub then when they wear out replace with 26 tall for front and rear.

Thank you and a few decades ago would have done that but have little energy these days and if unknown whether the 225/45r18s will fit then 215/45r18 it is.

This is like a lawyer's convention, impossible to get a simple "yes" or "no". Is a 26" diameter tire too big for the front on a stock 18x7.5" rim ? Nobunny nose ? YWTK

Great idea except anything over a 225 calls for at least an 8" rim. Has anyone mounted the 245/40-18 on a stock 18x7.5 inch rim ?
Am probably getting too deep into this but research before purchase is cheap and already have the wheels. Do think the 245s would look good.
Thank you.

I have installed tires on rims that call for the rim to be an inch larger some tires i have used on my crossfires especially the V8's example tires that call for 11" rims ,and i put them on example i ran 335/35-17,, 13.2 wide and 26.2 tall mounted on 9" rim drag radials stop worrying about the width of the rim, as long as u are 1" or so..

OK then after all of this dithering am down to 235/40-18 or 245/40-18 on front with stock 18x7.5" wheels.. Any suggestions or comments about which ? Pretty sure the 235 will fit, not so about the 245. Decisions, decisions.

any time my friend ,,, when u buy your tires have the shop mount the fronts for a test fit,, they know how to check if it will rub,
this is a 2004 so the suspension may be collapsed a little from all the years of driving that is why you should ask for a test fit. jim

no,,, first the hub on the A6 is 57.1 the crossfire is 66.5 so the wheel will not fit onto the hub ,, the a6 tire is 27.5 the crossfire max is 26..9 so the 345/35-18 is 27.5 tall

yes with spacers u can make them fit but not me.
