I guess it will be enough to do it at tirerack.

Tomorrow it will be done! ;D
You guys are going to the wrong shops if you don't know about on car balancing. For on car balancing they use a machine which spins the wheel. They ensure that there is now wobble, shake, etc. in the steering wheel, etc. I will be honest that I have not paid a huge amount of attention to exactly what they do but it is like magic.
In my opinion if you are running a civic or something as a commuter car any tire shop should be fine. If you have a sports car and are spending the money on nice tires, modifying your car, etc have it done right. Especially considering that on car balancing does not cost any more.
Balancing on the car allows for correction of imbalance in the driveline, axles, brake rotors, etc. It's all done by adding weight to the wheel, but it does work, ONLY if the vibration is not caused by the tire/wheel.

This is news to me, and I was having a hell of a time balancing my 20s. The only problem - if you switch wheels regularly (track set) and you do not get them back on EXACTLY as you had them, 1mm off, and you could potentially have issues.
I will have to look into this a little more. Thanks.

You are correct that you could throw the balance off if you do not put the wheels back exactly as they were. That being said before I realized the importance of putting everything back exactly the way it was I would just take the wheels off and throw them back on however. In my case I never had an issue.
Just grab some touch up paint and mark everything. If you are doing for multiple sets of wheels use different colors of paint.

I am very interested in these tires but surprised at the high tread wear rating they have.

The pilot SS really are slick. Love them to bits!

I have been driving something my whole life...starting on the farm when I could barely reach the peddles...raced bikes, raced cars, driven and am driving big rigs...logged over 3 million miles to date on the trucks alone, let alone 30 yrs of patrol cars......how the hell can balancing a tire on a car be any different than on a machine? As soon as the weight of the vehicle touches the pavement, and all it's weight is now on the wheels, it's has all changed. I have seen spin balancing while mounted on the truck, but, it isn't a bit different than having it done on the machine. The wheel is in the air...just sayin'...there isn't any majical machine out there I am aware of...that takes in the account of the car actually being on the ground. Unless there is something out there similar to a dyno, which allows your wheels to spin while the weight of the vehicle is on them, I can't see any difference. FUBU....nice purchase...now go rip some of that rubber off there and give us a photo of that bad boy...
Just curious... do race car drivers balance their wheels on the car???
I must have missed that in the pit stops.....

[quote=FUBU] Just purchased a set of four Michelin Pilot Super Sport!
An excellent choice. These are (from the research I've done) some awesome, awesome tires. I'm down to choosing between these and two others for a dual use tire (occasional autoX). Two separate sets, one for street and one for AutoX would be fantastic, but can only afford 1 set. Would love to hear if any other members have track time on these Super Sports.

I really don't want to be standing in front of a car while one rear wheel is being lifted for on car spin balancing with a WaveTrac LSD rear end.
